I want AVB or Rafa, but I think it will be Martinez.

AVB would be a risk for us, but an even bigger risk for his own personal career after his Chelsea spell so I don't think he'd come to us.

I reckon the owners won't even approach Rafa so I feel it will be Martinez and he would be my preferred choice if it is a PL manager.

FENWAY SPORTS GROUP AND LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB PART COMPANY WITH MANAGER KENNY DALGLISH

Search for new Manager begins immediately as owners pay tribute to 'legend' Dalglish

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Liverpool Football Club announced that Kenny Dalglish is to leave his post today as Manager after having his contract terminated.

After a careful and deliberative review of the season, the Club came to the decision that a change was appropriate. It is not a decision that was reached lightly or hastily.

The search for a new Manager will begin immediately.

Principal owner John Henry was fulsome in his praise for the outgoing Manager.

"Kenny will always be more than a championship winning manager, more than a championship winning star player. He is in many ways the heart and soul of the club. He personifies everything that is good about Liverpool Football Club. He has always put the Club and its supporters first. Kenny will always be a part of the family at Anfield.

"Our job now is to identify and recruit the right person to take this Club forward and build on the strong foundations put in place during the last 18 months."

Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner said it was a tough decision, but ultimately one that needed to be made.

"Kenny came into the Club as Manager at our request at a time when Liverpool Football Club really needed him. He didn't ask to be Manager; he was asked to assume the role. He did so because he knew the Club needed him. He did more than anyone else to stabilize Liverpool over the past year-and-a-half and to get us once again looking forward. We owe him a great debt of gratitude.

"However, results in the Premier League have been disappointing and we believe to build on the progress that has already been made, we need to make a change.

"We are committed to delivering success for our supporters and our ambition remains resolute to return this great Club to the elite of England and Europe, where it belongs."

Kenny Dalglish's departure brings to an end his second spell at the Club where, as a player, he won numerous honours, including six English league titles and three European Cup trophies. As Manager he won three league titles, two FA Cups and of course this season, the Carling Cup.

Dalglish said he is proud to have served such a great Club.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to have had the chance to come back to Liverpool Football Club as Manager. I greatly appreciate the work that Steve, Kevin, the players and all of the staff put in during my time and feel proud that we delivered the Club's first trophy in six years winning the Carling Cup and came close to a second trophy in the FA Cup Final. Of course I am disappointed with results in the league, but I would not have swapped the Carling Cup win for anything as I know how much it meant to our fans and the Club to be back winning trophies.

"Whilst I am obviously disappointed to be leaving the football club, I can say that the matter has been handled by the owners and all concerned in an honourable, respectful and dignified way and reflects on the quality of the people involved and their continued desire to move the football club forward in the same way as when they arrived here.

"I would like to thank all of the staff at the Club for their effort and loyalty. I said when first approached about coming back as Manager that I would always be of help if I can at any time and that offer remains the same.

"Finally, I want to put on record my heartfelt gratitude to Liverpool's fans, who have always given me and the Club their unwavering support. Without them neither the Club nor I would have achieved anything."

I wasn't lecturing you on stability, I was just pointing out 3 managers in 2 years is uncharacteristic for Liverpool.

Do you not think with the gross amount of money he's spent on over rated English players he's set you back a few years?

    no.

a "few years" is ridiculously hyperbolic.

and your original message was lecturing us on stability - if this isn't a dig at our "stability" i struggle to know what is.
The Liverpool job will be a hard one for any manager willing to take it on.

The job is a poison chalice at this stage with 3 managers in 2 years, so much for pool being a club that prides itself on stability.

A new manager coming in will need money to spend and will also have to work with Kenny's desperate signings. I fear Kenny has set the club back a few years and can't see any other manager been given the time to sort out the utter mess he's left behind.

and anyone refusing Rafa should give up supporting Liverpool and/or football in general.

if anything, we should be convincing him to come back.

in truth, unless he's fully re-energised after his sacking from Inter, well, then he should probably stay away for the sake of his own health.

This is a sad day for this club. Kenny should have got 1 more year. This kind of fast and loose behaviour with a manager makes us just like the rest of those clubs we detest.

What does it mean for the new manager? 4th or P45?, fu*k that, no soul left in the game.

    Well said sir. :(

For those of you who ignore Rafa's qualities as a manager, it's time to cop on.

    This.Seriously.

Even rival fans dont want him back cos we would actually be a threat again.

Martinez would be a much bigger risk than AVB.

One is proven quality. The other is a nobody.

He was at Wigan, short of a cup run he was never going to win anything. In fact, "winning" for a club like Wigan is survival. So he won twice in a row. Even their fans celebrated it like a Cup win. If the likes of Norwich and Swansea kick on and consolidate next year in the Premier League, fair play to them, but for now all they have achieved is "doing a Blackpool". Martinez has exceeded that on a tight budget with a small fan-base.

Liverpool under Dalglish have "spent the majority of the season looking hapless in terms of direction and purpose". If you want to argue a cup win in the Mickey Mouse Cup, where almost all top sides play their reserve teams, as progression then so be it.

You're right though Martinez needs to prove himself at a club with higher expectations. If he gets the gig, then here's his chance. If he doesn't then perhaps he'll get the Villa job (with slightly higher expecations than Wigan).

Except they haven't. Results have been disappointing, but the performances have been consistently good. They fell off in the league when 4th place was gone and the trophy was in the bag.

AVB just been mentioned on local radio as being the manager who managed in the EPL this season who has been approached.

Total radio rumour, but maybe of interest.

Doubt Pardew would turn down Liverpool.

They are a bigger club and have more resources than Newcastle, the season gone by was just an anomaly imo.
    On What basis?

Ayre gone as well? After the deals we did with Standard Chartered and Warrior???

That would be a mistake, I think...

Rafa with a stable club, a decent budget, and having had the time to reflect on a few things would be a very interesting prospect.

Yep hence why I want AVB, but you gotta think about it on his side too. The club isn't what it used to be. If it goes wrong with AVB in charge. People will want him out quickly too.

We're in big trouble, big fcuking trouble.

I thought they might have someone lined up to step in straight away.

My preferences would be, in this order:

Pellegrini, Klopp, Deschamps, AVB, Blanc, Martinez, Lambert, Bielsa

oh, and Pardew can fúck off - wouldn't want him anywhere near the job.

i'll take their scouting team though.

Yet he won the CL and FA Cup, and brought us to 2nd in the table before that bad spell, which coincided with the Yanks coming in.....

    .tv site is down.

there goes my theory on giving kenny another year and then bringing in pep!

sad times. I like martinez but i get the feeling he will be completely overwhelmed at liverpool. And if things go awry by october/november, he'll be gone by xmas.

Their revenue is far higher than Newcastle's and they're basically richer. Liverpool will be a more successful club than Newcastle over the next 10 years.
