Downing's inclusion really is baffling, but I think we should all hope his has a good tournament cause he really is a confidence player in every sense of the word .

It really could help us (LFC) in the long run.

all the above goes out the window when Ire meet Eng in the qtr finals

Thought that at first as well....or it could get the fans on his back when he puts in a shift for England and returns to his mediocre performances next season.

I hope he has a good tournament so it can give us a chance to sell him.

    Ian McGarry:
I understand current PL manager has been contacted about becoming new head coach at #LFC. Where does that leave Kenny Dalglish?

Poulsen doesn't qualify to play for England

    Safe as houses so Kenny

this is the same bloke that said Eden Hazard was signing for Chelsea in January.

If there is any truth to it it's Paul Lambert IMO

it puts Downing in the shop window.

Ian McGarry is consistent....at talking absolute bollocks. I've seen him get so many things wrong over the last 12 months. The last one I remember was that he was saying Chelsea were closing in on Hazard in January.

Would that not be Clarke's role?

Jamie Dalton is always slagging him off on twitter too.
A very vague tweet it seems to be too.
So if Liverpool were to appoint Wenger he could say that's who he meant. (we all know it won't be Wenger, just used that to prove the point)

He's in those black bags, isn't he?

While it's a lovely idea that it puts him in the shop window, does anyone really see Kenny selling him after the tournament if he does somehow do well?

    Opr

If Downing has a another season like last, he'll be crucified.

On the bright side, he'll see up close what a decent cross looks like :pac:

Fair enough! Don't follow him myself, just saw that he has the ear of most people that I do, one of whom retweeted him.

TBH I'd be very skeptical of any reports of moves for other managers before we get a DoF in.

The criticism that Downing is receiving now from the media is going to do him no favours.
He's already the fall guy before the tournament has even kicked off.
I'm not defending him as he's been awful for much of the season just gone but some of the rubbish by journos is OTT. No surprise there though

    Steven Gerrard is England captain

when i said "shop window", it was slightly tongue-in-cheek.

it's a nice idea, but i really don't see us selling Downing this summer at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

There's a decent chance that Downing won't even play much at all in the Summer. I assume Young and Walcott will start with Chamberlain off the bench if some creativity is needed.

The only possible explanation I can see for bringing Downing is that he can play on both flanks and he's a different sort of winger to the other ones, but there's still no way he should be included.

Young and Walcott are both right footed they arent they, and they place more right wing then left side.

    I can see Downing starting

Young is right footed but plays on the left for United.

    Downing in the squad :pac:

    Henderson on standby :pac::pac::pac::pac:

Happy to see Carroll get in, hope he has a stormer. (Im happy to see all liverpool lads in the team and hope they play well but Carroll was the only one I was half expecting to make it. Didnt think Downing or henderson stood a chance)

Seems to be a lot of agents trying that crap going around. Toure's is at it too.

While I had to laugh at Henderson being on standby, it really highlights that England are up against it come the summer. They don't have the players they used to have

Dunno why this is being discussed on this thread but England are in on the cusp of a generational shift right now. In squad will look quite different for 2014.

I'm sure he agonized over their inclusion in the squad. The poor guys chin is probably worn out over it.

I'm surprised at their inclusion but you've just got to respect Hodgsons vast managerial experience. :)
