want to get fitter

    hi if anyone could help, im moderately fit at the moment i go to the gym, swim and walk im very active. but would like to get as fit as possible and think that maybe i fall down when it comes to nutrition, any advice on what i should be eating before workouts, to give me more energy. also if anyone knows about protein shakes, not sure if you take these as replacement for meals or alongside your daily diet.
