Seeing as it is now May 12th, can I just say Happy Birthday to Burt Bacharch?

One of the greatest songwriters ever

Burt Bacharach always reminds me of Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

It was in Smash Hits in 1987,so it must have been true. :)

Smash Hits was a brilliant magazine. I always used to sneakily read my Sister's Copy :o

You must have a memory like a Hawk Skid.....

Can't remember the name of the magazine with the words of the songs in it I used to buy....If I heard it I'd remember....

Better not do that clock test thing....:(

Gay Byrne and Finbar Furey on the SNS tomorrow apparently.

    Decent line up ...

We have a great show lined up this week, a taster of who's to come include TV legend Gay Byrne, son of Sonny and Cher, Chaz Bono, Irish music great Finbar Furey and star of The Committments and The Tudors, Maria Doyle Kennedy will be performing one of her tracks.

That probably was Smash Hits ... for years I swore blind that the lyrics they printed were the official lyrics ... then they admitted that they just made them up, whatever they thought was being said

The kids these days can just google the lyrics, and download the songs. I had to tape them off the radio, and hope they played the full song without Larry Gogan talking over the end. They don't know how good they have it :D

Sounds good....hopefully there won't be any more sad stories (sounds terrible but I've had it up to here with them).....FF should be good for a laugh and Bono Jr. should have a couple of good stories to tell....

    Decent line up ...

Bet BOC will have some pointed question to Gaybo about the job he thinks Tubridy does hosting his show

Gaybo will of course be the consummate gent and defend him and the current show half heartedly saying "Ah no, its harder to get the guests, no one will agree to come on anymore unless they have a book or movie to promote"
    Fairly sure this will happen.

Breaking my heart laughing here Skid....never knew they were makey-uppy lyrics...lol....remember the top 30 on Radio Luxembourg and trying to get Noel Edmunds incessant gabbing off the song you were taping...and editing the favourite ones.....kids these day's don't know the half of it.....(as the mother would say)....:D

Sure i remember recording Radiohead's Karma Police onto tape off FM 104 one time. Towards the end of the song for some reason, FM104 played a bicycle bell sound over the song. Of course, i thought it was on the actual song itself.

For years, i always heard the bell in my head when i listened to the song until one day i realised i wasn't hearing the bell. I had to put two and two together and realise it was the station all along!! B*astards. I can't listen to that song now without thinking of that bell!!

Haha, I love it grey. Luxembourg was a bit before my time, to be honest. I have a bag full of tapes somewhere, I must listed to them again while i still have the equipment to pay them on.

I remember saving my pocket money to buy my first album (on tape) I was in the record shop trying to decide between Michael Jackson's Bad and Wet Wet Wet's Popped In Souled Out. I took all day and eventually went for .... The Wets :) Feck it, I still like them even if they are not 'cool' to like. Marti Pellow is still a terrific singer, I saw him a few years ago, he was brill ...

I remember playing and rewinding Queens Bohemian Rhapsody to try and figure out the words after watching Waynes World rock it out headbanging the life out of a little car. "Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the vandango, thunderbolt of lightening, very very frightening, ting Galileo, ting Galileo, Magnifico..." frigging "...beelzebub" I thought I was deaf or something

****ers do have it so easy today :P

ha, those were the days alright. Rumours is a brilliant Album, hasn't aged a bit, timeless. I might invest in a tape converter soon, I'm sure I have a few gems on my tapes that never made it to iTunes :)

There's actually one for sale in Lidl at the moment Skid.. 30 quid I think.. or you could just plug a 3.5mm male to male cable from the output of your sony walkman with radio and stop button (:D) into the back of your PC and record to mp3 using Audacity..

Cheers Jonny, my trusty Sony Walkman is still working as it happens.

That was a splendid purchase - 20 years old and still going strong. They don't make them like that anymore :)

That, particularly the last bit is an informative piece of excellence! Is there anything similar for VHS? I got Aldi/Lidl converter kit for video about 3 years ago but I never did get round to using it even once, just yet.

You wont be able to hook it up to a normal PC without extra hardware.. I have a TV Tuner card in my PC, which allows you to have a coax input... i.e. analog aerial / digital aerial / video... And you can use the software to record from there...

This is the one I have...
    Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1100 - DVB-T receiver

Though it's a damn sight cheaper there than what I paid for it..:mad:

He used to be in the US Marines, too.

    That's all I can remember :o

Here's another nugget for your fact-file, Skid - he was one of those artists who availed of the "let's live in Ireland and avoid paying a whack to the Taxman" 6 months back in the late 80's / early '90's. He lived in Beauparc House aka Henry Mountcharles' other stately home.

I get that most people don't like Jedward but you have to hand it to the two lads, They are making serious money. They are far from stupid. It's all part of their act. They will only have a few years to do it before they are in their mid 20's and the act doesn't work anymore.

They are going to be financial set for life if they can run with this hype for a few more years. Apparently they already have made £2m each so far. Plenty more where that came from.

And that's exactly why most people hate them. The've made millions even though their talentless. I really don't get this argument, are we supposed to like them because they've found out how to exploit idiotic pre-teen girls who make up the majority of their fanbase?

If you had the opportunity, Or anyone one else had the opportunity to do what they are doing. You would do the exact same thing.

Almost every artist out these days is bloody talentless

Westlife spent 10 years doing it. Not one of them could ever play an instrument or right a song. They got up on stage a mined ever single word to a backing track of a covered song that someone who actually had talent wrote 30 years before

Rubbish, there are loads of talented artists out there. What kind of music do you listen to?
