How many are you envisaging leaving from the current group?

    Current crop

    Anderson
    Cleverley
    Carrick
    Fletcher
    Pogba
    Scholes
    Giggs
    Park (apparently)

Of that crop I expect to see Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley, Pogba, Giggs and maybe Scholes next season.

If that is the case then the signing of a more advanced player such as Kagawa and 1 proper central midfielder is all that is likely.

If someone like Kagawa is signed it will surely signal a real shift of formation to the 4231 meaning that 2 of Carrick,Anderson,Cleverley etc along with the new signing competing for the two spots, along with Jones if needed.

It does depend on who is going to be around next season I suppose

Came across this on the Borussia Dortmund site

Kagawa not ready to accept new contract offer -
Zorc: "We have no need to sell him"

[29.04.] Michael Zorc, the BVB Sporting Director took the opportunity of his appearance on the football talk-show "Sky90" to comment on the current situation regarding the future of Shinji Kagawa (23), "We have spent the last five days talking to him and his agent; and as things stand he is not prepared to accept our extended contract offer."
He went on to describe Kagawa´s future as "completely undecided" and added, "We will continue to talk with him and his agent, but from now on we will be keeping our options open and fully understand that we are likely to receive approaches for the player. But I have to make it clear that there is no economic reason to sell the guy." He could not rule out, though, that an offer "of significant size" may yet lead to a transfer away from the club of a player who´s contract expires in 2013 "if it made commercial sense."

Continuing on the subject Zorc said, "Shinji is not bluffing. He has a career path in his head and the fabled Premier League in his head. Let´s just wait and see what happens over the coming days and weeks."

Sigurdsson would be a good signing for ye. Better than Fellaini IMO.

Sigurdsson = BOSS. And apparently Hoffenheim want 8.2m for him, which is very reasonable.

Yup he would be a decent signing , already used to English football that's a big plus .

Id be quite happy with him and Kagawa. He's really impressed me this year.

What about Gaitan? We've been linked with him for quite a while now and there's just something about Fabio going on loan to Benfica. Why not a PL club? Does anyone reckon its possible that we'll sign him too? (assuming the Kagawa rumours are true)

I think that while Sigurdsson and Kagawa would both be good signings, especially because they could be both signed for around €10 million each, I still feel like united need an enforcer in the centre of the midfield, á la Javi Martinez. Couldn't see them signing him though

    Fellaini can do that.

as i said after the everton game, he is the best player ive seen at old trafford this year, he absolutely destroyed us and reduced two of the most in form defenders in the league (along with Jelavic also) to looking like amateurs.

i would love him at united, but would he suit us? he is more suited for liverpool or chelsea than us, we dont play an aerial game, but perhaps then again its another outlet.

we normally get destroyed when teams play an aerial game against us and are s*it from corners and set plays so in that sense, he is ideal for us added to his obvious other talents and ability.

In big games Rio and Vidic seem to resort to an aerial long ball game for some unknown reason to me so maybe he would work out in that respect

A lot of the players being linked here are not really central midfielders. If United persist with 4-4-2 many of these players will not be used in thier best position.

This leads me to the following summation. The Goetze, Kagawa, Gaitan, Hazard rumours are pure unadulterated shíte or Ferguson is making a dramatic system change to 4-5-1- or 4-3-3 or a varient there of. Those four players are just glorified wingers in the current United system.

Personally I think United would be better served with two more conventional all round midfielders as opposed overtly attack minded players. I think United's wingers are more than good enough to provide ample service and opportunites.

My read would be that United's midfielders have to be able to play at a much higher tempo than Carrick ( I've stated here that I feel his weak point his inability to take the game by the scruff and dictate the tempo of the match) retain possession and win tackles. I think two midfielders are needed for this job. I don't subscribe to it having to be £40m spent on one either.

I think he would suit us. He'd do what Carrick does now a days, only better. Give a hand to the two CBs, break up the play in the middle and get the ball out to a slightly more attacking midfielder/the wingers.

I'd like to think we'd have a bit more ambition than Sigurdsson and Kagawa. Both would be great squad players but I don't think either is an improvement on our Carrick-Scholes combo atm. We should be aiming higher. Haven't seen much of Kagawa but he doesn't look like the kind of guy that our midfield needs.

Would it really require that big a change in tactics? I would have thought that dropping welbeck / chicharito and moving rooney into the more advanced forward role he occupied during berbatov's first year at the club would easily accomodate any of the players mentioned. They would simply take the role that rooney is fulfilling this year (ie, withdrawn striker / number ten / attacking midfielder / free role / whatever name you want to give it)

ive never seen anything linking us to Goetze, but the Gaitan, hazard and Kagawa interest seems real. we may not sign any of them of course, but just cos it may not happen, doesnt mean we dont want them.

Hazard seems destined for City, but we are 100% interested in him, there is no doubt or denying that. Kagawa interest also appears to be 100%. the guitan one is strange, in portugal it appears its a done deal, but there is little to suggest in england that its anywhere near as advanced.

i think we will defo sign one of those 3 anyway.

Why do you think this? I think of all the players we may or may not sign this summer, Nathan Clyne looks a genuine target. Why? Because we are heavily linked and he fits the profile of the sort of player we would look to sign.

Kagawa etc would require a slight change in styles. I think Fergie would prefer a more all-rounder.

Again, its a bit of a dream but I would love Cabaye

Sigurdsson would be a fantastic signing. He has all the trademarks of a top-class player. His touch is outstanding and he reads the game very well. He can strike the ball superbly from outside the box. He has 4 goals from outside the box in only a few games. There are only 2 other players who have scored more than that in the league this season.

He gets forward nicely and finds space for himself in the box as well. 6'1 so he's a decent height for corners as well.

Swansea had a bid rejected apparently a few days ago. Hoffenheim don't really seem to want him. He was voted their player of the year by the club and then he was shipped off on loan to Swansea a few months later.

Would be happy with him for a start anyway.

Is it just me, or this an unusually large amount of "transfer muppetry" and very early this year? Even for us? There are 2 league games left after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,785 ✭✭✭killwill

Forget Sigurdsen, forget Kagawa and give me a CM who will lead on the pitch, grab a game by the scruff of the neck and get the best out of the players around him.
Then we can look at ACM.

It's wholly understandable. The paucity of quality in a few key positions have cost United the chance of a straightforward League title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,320 ✭✭✭v3ttel

    straightforward League title.

Both City & United will end up with 89 points if they win both remaining games.

That'll be the highest total since United won the league with that total FIVE years ago.

    Straight forward?

I don't understand the point. I'm pretty sure he meant, seriously linked, from some sort of credible source, not the rags.

I can put up a site claiming we're in for Doink the Clown, heavily optimise it to show up in the top page of search results, and it would be as credible a source as the Daily Mail or the Mirror.

Straight forward. yes. Beat Wigan Beat Everton. Straightforward. This was happening a month ago. It went tits up due to United being exposed in key positions, mainly fullback and midfield. It's notihng to do with points tally.

On the second point, apologies I didn't think there was a paper of record for official United transfer tittle tattle. Grateful if you could forward me same.

ah come off it ffs, there is paper talk and there there is actual talk with foundation. martin ferguson for example has seen hazard play twice in the past 2 or 3 weeks.

i will repeat, i see nothing anywhere that suggests we are even interested in him.

nope, its normal. this year due to the fletcher factor, the injuries to a few central players, pogba suituation and the fact that scholes and giggs are pushing 40, i think its to be expected.

also, as its euro season, there will be alot of activity and press pick up on this. fergie knows united have a hole in the squad and i hope we will strike early.

united sell papers, thats it really.

What are you on about straightforward nothing is straightforward at the closing stages of the season. Nonsense nothing to do with points tally you win the league over 38 games not by beating Wigan and Everton. Whats exciting is this is a young squad in transition and has done so well with such an obvious weakness in midfield. Bring in two mifielders. De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Jones, Smalling and Wellbeck will be better next season. Have Vidic back, Chico get back to full fitness and Nani and Valencia can stay injury free. In the league its quite amazing how many points we have considering key injuries and such a young team. The squad is only a top midfielder or two away from pulling clear of City and competing for the Champions League again. Its exciting times ahead.

That is just speculated to be Hazard, United have issued no statement on any transfer target that I'm aware of. It could have been Joe Cole for all you know. It's all paper talk for jaysus sake, You and Rooney10 are now the arbiters of what is credible gossip and what is not, it seems!

Your pointless picking up on my post has led to this absurdity.

Read their where you said its straightforward if beat Wigan and Everton. Can you see where you than mentioned it has nothing to do with points tally. It has everything to with points tally. Can you now see where you mentioned points tally. it has everything to do with points tally because our key positions dont revolve around two games it revolves around 38 games.
