id like to know is there a way of retrieving flash codes from the ecu
and what trouble does the airbag system usually give in these cars.

Check the wiring underneath the seats, could be a loose wire.

Will the light go out if that's the fault when rectified or do I still need to get a scanner.

Probably depends on the car, but it went out on our Santa fe straight away with no scanner

Had a look under the seats, there were plugs there but nothing to plug into. Strange!

Were the plugs coming from the seats or the wiring loom?

They were from the loom. Took out the seats to check for wiring.
    There was none.

I have a 2008 hyundai i30 petrol and the main dealer garage has told me the ECU is gone. A new ecu fitted is working out at 1100 euro which seems very high. When i found a couple of scrap yard ECUs the dealer told me they werent compatible. The difference in cost is the second hand one is 150 but im guessing the dealer doesnt want to put in the second one for obvious reasons.
    Any advice?
