Slow browsing speed but speedtest high on Macbook

    Hi,

    I'm having a strange issue with a 2008 Macbook running OSX 10.5.8. I am using WiFi to connect to UPC and when I do a speed test on speedtest.net I get a fairly constant 19Mbps.

    The problem is when I browse any internet site it is extremely slow. This happens on Safari, Chrome and Firefox.

    I have noticed that when opening a site for the first time it will take a while, i.e. www.boards.ie But once I am on the site accessing other pages within it is quite quick.

    Any ideas?

    No but I have the same problem with my old Powerbook.

    Sounds like a DNS problem. Try changing your DNS settings to Google's public DNS. I think it's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    Its defo DNS....but I did change my DNS to googles and it was that which made it slow.

    I reverted back to default DNS and speeds came back
