"I was very motivated when I was at Liverpool, but as soon as I saw things changing I asked them to sell me to Italy. I like Liverpool but Milan is the highest, the top".

Doesn't sound like he'd be too keen on returning. Interesting to see how this pans out. It's only newspaper reports that say Milan won't be playing him again, nothing offical from Milan as of yet.

I have a feeling he never wanted to leave Italy in the first place.

Dunno, but think it's fair to say he didn't feel wanted by Kenny and it's hard to see the pair working together if Kenny stays.

I'd love to see Aquaman back, but tbh I think he has no intention of coming back :(

    Article By Richard Buxton
    wrote:
Alberto Aquilani looks set to return to Liverpool after AC Milan vetoed plans to sign him.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been on loan with the reigning Serie A champions this season but reports in Italy today indicate that the Rossoneri are reluctant to press ahead with the deal.

Juventus, ironically where Aquilani spent last season on loan, hold a three-point lead which threatens to deny Milan's bid to claim back-to-back titles for the first time in 18 years.

To date, Aquilani has made 21 domestic appearances for Milan and would trigger the mandatory £5million clause should he make a further four outings before the end of the current campaign.

But the Italian giants are said to be reluctant to field the former Roma playmaker, who has made just 13 starts during his time at the San Siro, which has left him facing an Anfield limbo.

Nobody is saying its not fair comment to give the team/manager stick thats part and parcel of the game. But I have seen and heard lads call for Kenny's head now,to be doing something like that in the run up to a cup final is not on in my book.

Analyze all you want but 4th is gone months, serious questions have to be asked in the summer when its right but its foolish to think this kind of open descent is not getting back to the players and staff. This has to have an effect on them.

We are not Chelsea or R Madrid,we do things our way and give managers time some would say to much time but fcuk them we do it our way.

Yes fourth is long gone, but that is still no reason for any Liverpool supporter to accept being shyte in the league. I want the club to finish as high as it can in the league.

If Fourth is gone, then I want to get fifth.

If fifth is gone then I want sixth.

Right now it looks like 7th is the best we can get, and guess what? I want that.

Winning a cup is great, and I don't care what anyone says about the league cup because I like winning any silverware. If we win the FA cup then that will be great as well. But I will still expect the players to want to finish as high as they can in the league and to play as if each 90 minutes is of equal importance to them.

There are four games left in the season for us. I simply want to win every one of them. Each one of those games is fair game for discussion/debate/disection/praise/criticism once the final whistle goes.

To adopt an attitude of let's be up for some games and ignore the outcomes of the ones that cannot win us things is retarded imho. You yourself put up a post yesterday using the term The Liverpool Way , well if you want to use that kind of logic and try to conjure up memories of Shanks, then wanting to win every game, and the players/manager being accountable for results is a must.

If supporters back the team when it is on the pitch, then that is what matters in footballing terms. Those very same supporters have the right to comment on what they saw, they have the right to discuss their opinions with other reds, and there is no way in hell any Liverpool supporter should just ignore certain things and do the superfan thing on some website.

Criticising a performance or a poor league season does not make one a better or worse supporter as long as you try to back up what you say with observations that led you to forming your opinion.

Putting one's head in the sand and ignoring stuff does not make one a better or worse supporter, although it make make one a fool.

What we see week in week out is open to debate and discussion. If one decides that thinking only of the final is what works for one as an individual, then that is fine, but don't try to make out it is the Liverpool Way and anyone who does not do so is not following the code.

I'll be in Wembley in a few weeks. I'm sure a few others that use this thread will be as well. No doubt many of us in Wembley will have had differing views on websites in the build up to Wembley and again in the weeks after it. But the only thing that matters is that on the day, when our team runs out onto that pitch, that we are all backing that team as one. All prepared top put our differing views aside to back the very team we have those differing views about. If anything is close to being the Liverpool Way then that is it.

That is the attitude that should be taking into every game you go to. Whether it is a league cup game, a league game, a CL game, or a Europa league qualifier. And if that is what we the supporters should be doing on match day, then it is really not too much to expect the players who will be paid more per week than most of the crowd will earn in a year to put in all they have for each 90 minutes they are representing our club.

Right now Wembley is not the main game on my mind. Norwich is next, and beating them is worth three points. For the next four or so days that should be the be all for the team, not the game after the Norwich game. Norwich I always want to hammer. The very last time I could stand on the Kop, they gave us a bloody nose and a defeat. Our last game where standing was the norm and we were given a defeat. That stuck in the craw. Sure the cup final is massive and it will be an amazing day. But we can find reasons to make almost every game a cup final, and for me our next one comes this weekend. Next week we can get caught up in the cup final build up because getting caught up in that whilst there are still other games to be played before that is a sure way to rack up more defeats.

Unfortunately it will be like we signed Charlie Adam all over again

    That's the joke. :p

I'd like it if the sleeves were also purple. Purple is class. It's just the white sleeves that make it horrible.

IT is incredible the amount of bad luck Liverpool FC have had at home this season, it is amazing. But you can’t put your finger on why it keeps happening to them.

The only thing we do know is that Liverpool need a striker to start sniffing out the goals.

If the Reds had someone who could convert the countless chances they have created then the team would be a lot further up the table.

Kenny Dalglish and the Liverpool hierarchy are well aware of this and know that they need to break the bank to find that goalscorer.

You feel that a top side needs to have three or four strikers they can rotate.

    Certainly Liverpool need a goalscorer.

I don’t know who the club may have in mind but I like the look of Gonzalo Higuain at Real Madrid.

He doesn’t play an awful lot at the Bernabeu but he would be brilliant for us.

But would he come? Would Real release him? And how much would be cost?

But there are players out there.

Just look at the business Newcastle United did in January by bringing in Papiss Cisse.

There are players out there who fit the bill but it is all about having the right scouting network in place.

To a large degree, Liverpool have maybe not had that over the last 12 years.

It was Groundhog Day on Sunday.

Liverpool now need to win their final two home games of the season to match their wins tally at Anfield from the season they were relegated.

But you can’t knock the players for their enthusiasm, character and the way they went about things on against West Brom.

Everything was really, really good other than the same old problem of not taking our chances.

We are not clinical and I’m sick of talking about it.

The tactics at the weekend were spot on and on another day the Reds would have won 5-1.

    They would have won easily.

It was a really good performance and we are finding so many pluses from getting beat.

The only bad mistake made in the game and Liverpool get punished for it.

All our build up play was great, we hit the post, bar and side netting and also had the goalkeeper pull off some tremendous saves.

    It was an unbelievable game

In my mind, if thats true then it has huge implications that Kenny is definitely getting another year. No way FSG are going to sanction signing new players now if their planning on a new DOF & manager in summer.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. Interesting read.

Wonder what the model would have said about Rafa?

Anyhow, I found this bit curious:
    wrote:
There is a negative relationship between points accumulation and player unavailability as one might expect. Five players missing with injuries equates to a loss of 0.2 points a game on average. Five players being suspended simultaneously results in an average drop of 0.5 points a game.
The unavailability of five players – at the Africa Cup of Nations, for example - is equal to a drop of 0.6 points per game on average.

Is it a case that it makes a massive difference to the available players - the reasons that the unavailable players are unavailable.

Noting that suspended players would train and injured players would not and wouldn't be more out of sight.

Is it a mentality thing or is there some logical reason I am just not considering?

Could it because if someone is injured (could be short/mid/long term), the way the manager changes the team is different to how he might if a player is suspended for a defined period (3 games, etc).

    Head scratcher.

Wonder what the model would have said about Rafa?
The output of the model is a percentage. This percentage outlines the manager’s performance in relation his peers. A result of 20 per cent, for example, means that 20 per cent of managers performed better than the manager in question. A result of 50 per cent means 50 per cent of managers (in our large randomised sample) perform better. A result of zero percent means no manager performed better, given the same circumstances the manager under scrutiny is facing.
The higher the percentage the rating, the worse the manager. The lower, the better. The model recommends that a manager receiving a score worse than 95 per cent should be a candidate for the sack whilst a manager receiving a score better (lower) than 5 per cent is among the best performing managers.
The results the model generated with regard to the top performing managers were unsurprising in as much as it told me that good managers were good. Sir Alex Ferguson, Guus Hiddink, Arsène Wenger, José Mourinho and Rafa Benítez all consistently registered a score of 0.00% during the sample period. This means that no manager performed better than them given the resources at their disposal. Sam Allardyce, David Moyes, Steve McClaren and Martin O’Neill all performed very well with limited resources throughout the five year period.
The major advantage of this model is that it is run on a weekly basis. For this reason it can recommend an exact date of potential dismissal for a manager.

Have I missed something re Aquilani? Always seemed very keen to go back to Italy so can't see how that has changed.

I'd rather we went into the market for another playmaker as I'm not sure we could risk starting a season with him as first choice.

He was sacked after the 2009–2010 season, their model is based on up to and including the 2009 season I believe.

Still should never have been sacked.

Wonder was the reason the owners allegedly weren't impressed with what they knew of Benitez came down to the inflated wage bill. If that was the limit of their concerns, then they should obviously rehire him immediately.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Comolli signing made before he left. The reports state that we've made a downpayment of $3m towards the total $9m transfer fee. Given the article I posted a few days back which did a statistical analysis if you scoured the leagues based on stats I am sure he would have been one of the guys who came to the forefront if you were looking for a striker which makes me think even more it may have been Damien.

    http://www.ligapostobon.com.co/noticia/jackson-martinez-nuevo-jugador-de-liverpool-12654

    $9m = £5.57m.

We paid more for Charlie Adams, how bad a transfer can it be?
Probably still paying more each year in Joe Cole's wages.

    Jinxed it now.

I feel that wage bill wouldn't have been an issue if we weren't involved in free transfers. I'm sure that would have been explained to the new owners.

    Translated:
Several Mexican media indicate that Liverpool Jaguars already paid a sum of money for the pass from Jackson Martinez, who is competing in the Premier League.
One of the most credible journalists in Mexico is Jorge Zambrano, that RCN-Antena 2, released the figures in the negotiations with the English team, "Jackson is a player elsewhere, so the directives of Liverpool of England and paid three of the nine million dollars, "said the communicator.
Known official version, the Aztec commentator gives as a fact the incorporation of Colombian striker "The Reds" as it is known to the English side, which is listed as one of the most important in Europe, "Now if I can say that and he is part of Liverpool. "
But surely believes that the policies of your new equipment will provide an opportunity to think in another joint that competes in the Premier League: "Suddenly you're going to transfer to another club that competes in that country by the modus operandi given in Europe. "
Therefore considers that this is the last season of "Cha-Cha-Cha" in football manito with Jaguars: "Certainly Mexico is not going to have more to Jackson."
Martinez will become the second player in Colombia, now in such a prestigious league in recent years has been doing vallecaucano striker Hugo Rodallega to Wigan.
