Selling him was one thing but selling him on the cheap was stupid.

He had one year left on his contract and wanted to leave. We needed every penny we could get that summer.

are you sure about the 1 year left?

I didn't realise that. 4 million I think was the fee.

When you look at some of the talent we have lost these last few seasons it really is depressing.

Is the match on the liverpool channel lads ?

just to depress everyone a bit, i'm sure this has been posted before, and it links with our need for a goalscorer...

it's as emotional as i've ever gotten watching a YouTube clip. i feel like a pansy.

watching him play as a Drogba-lite, trying to be big, strong, hold up play, and lay off for people is just weird.

the guy above, the guy who ran at, and turned defences, who didn't seem to give a shít who was around him because it was his objective to simply run and score, get on the end of things that came into the box, etc...that is who we need with Suarez.

i'm sorry for depressing you all :o

Maybe one of the reasons Suarez shoots so much is because so often he has nobody in the box to pass to? Granted Suarez can be wasteful, but if he does not have a striker in the box (or other players coming from deep or wide positions) with him then shooting is his only option.

Put someone like Welliton, or Huntelaar into yesterday's team instead of Carroll and I am sure the result would have been very different and that Suarez would have linked with them many times during the game.

Kess I'd consider you a balanced poster on this forum - and you know I'm not trolling when I say - are you fúcking serious putting that on Carroll???

I've no problem with him shooting when he's isolated, sometimes he gets into space where nobody else reacts, or works an opening that nobody expects but yesterday, and on a number of other occasions this season Suarez has taken the selfish route - and before anybody mentions that it's in a strikers nature to be this way, yes it is, but strikers will more often that not give the ball to a man in a better position - most certainly if that person is roughly 5 yards from an open net.

I think Suarez is a brilliant player but he could have been the difference between 3 points, a point or no points yesterday just as much as Glen Johnson and what gets me is Johnson will get loads of stick for his mistake yesterday (rightly so) yet Luis can do no wrong with the fans despite when he clearly deserves criticism

    Cavialeri

    Arbeloa
    Hyppia
    Greek
    Insua

    Mascherano-Alonso

    Babel
    Aquilani
    Benayoun

    Torres

    Not bad!

Though, all the same, it does highlight the fact that we haven't had real top notch quality out wide since McManaman left. A succession of square pegs in round holes or players who just weren't good enough. Overall, we've rotated our spine well in the transfer market down through the years.

This is pretty funny, we're on course to win 2 out of the 3 competitions we entered this season, yet you still want him sacked :P

Seems football is only about "winning" when it suits your argument, when it doesn't you're happy to bring other variables into the equation.

    He's bought 2 (arguably 3) strikers since he has been back at the club;
    • Carroll
    • Suarez
    • Bellamy

I'd call 2 of the 3 a success, so yes, imo, he can be trusted to buy a striker (genuinely, his critics making our clubs greatest ever servant out to be some sort of retard is highly disrespectful imo).

Is it not the case that the Suarez deal was in the pipeline long before Kenny took over?

Luciano Narsingh of Heerenveen is being talked up by Jen Chang.

Approaching Ruud Gullit's 83/84 record of 22 assists in a single Eredivisie season.
Chang reckons £10 mill will get him and he's only 21.

Well Mike, I'd rather be sentimental than ruthlessly pragmatic to the point of not being able to enjoy a cup semi-final victory over Everton. Dig your own hole.

Tactically we seemed to have no b plan yesterday to try and capitalise on having loads of possession but no penetration. There was no clever switch of formation, no taking advantage of who was showing figtht etc etc, and there was plenty to show that although we still lost to West Brom that we might have been mauled in certain areas of the pitch had we been up against a less frail team than WBA.

We didn't really need a plan B though, did we? We certainly created enough chances. If we had a plan B we would've just missed the sitters that that plan created.
And yes maybe had we been playing a better team we would've been mauled, but we weren't.
Good teams don't win all the time by playing perfectly.

This will be three seasons in a row as a mid table team. At some point people need to stop blaming bad luck and what not. The club is, imho of course, on the cusp of becoming a full time mid table team rather than a club that is just waiting for players to settle or finally click.
I just don't think it's possible with our turnover to become stuck in mid table. We've got a better defence when fit (and carra will probably drop below Coates next year) than those currently around us.

There's only 5 teams in the league that have players of the same cailibre as Lucas, Suarez and possibly still Gerrard.

I think with Kenny and the management they made one big mistake and that was leaving us short of goals.
    That's their fault.

I don't think there's much more that could've been done with those resources once that mistake was made.
They could've strengthened in January but perhaps money wasn't made available. We can't really say for sure.

Can he be trusted to buy that striker?

I don't think he will the be honest.

Come the end of the season, he is going to have to request funds to make us somewhat competitive. He will probably have to make it clear he needs to spend big in attacking areas, specifically areas he has already invested in (central midfield & centre forward) and this is where he will fall on his sword.

If I was FSG I wouldn't trust him to oversee the investment needed to make us competitive at the top end of the table.

There will be no sentiment from these guys like there is with the loyal kenny supporters.

i didn't mean it to be sentimental.

promises were made to Torres, as well as Rafa, about the team, and they were broken by the owners.

Torres is on record as saying that many fans don't know the ins and outs of what happened with his departure, and I'm nearly sure he even mentioned a word like "promises" and "guarantees".

he was then used as pawn in the sale of the club.

if our previous owners weren't the cancer they were, the man may still be at the club doing what he's supposed to be doing - scoring goals, with Rafa at the helm getting the best out of him and Gerrard - the only manager who ever really has.

it serves as perspective on the current situation. we are on our way back after being asset stripped by the cowboys. there are a lot of decisions that have to made this summer that will be key going forward, but it's important to remember how much a fall we've actually taken in terms of personnel because of H***s and G*****t's bullshít.

Torres, and the quality he brought, was only one casualty.

Fair enough, I tend to read the appearance of "greatest hits" videos as taking refuge from the current realities.

This game Ressies game isn't much cop, neither side are creating much and Liverpool are tending to hoof the ball forward in an effort to by-pass the Magpies midfield

Newcastle score, Liverpool completely failed to pick up the player on the edge.

Nobody told me Carra was playing for the reserves today.

Its frustrating when people mention how we never replaced the above players, and indeed were not given the chance to.

People forget that we spent enough cash replacing all of the above, the problem being the replacements were substandard. And there are some substandard names in that above team and thats saying something.

It wasn't due to lack of investment, its was (as has been the case at Liverpool for 20+ years) a case of pissing funds down the toilet.

The club have also been quick to champion the fact that we cleared out all of the "deadwood", like this has been some kind of achievement. This is an expensive exercise in itself, not to mention the fact that 2 of the clubs biggest earners (Aquilani and Cole) are still on our books and will be for the forseeable future until someone deems them to be worthy of the obscene wages we shelled out for them. Wages, the majority of which we are contributing to this season, I might add, while they play elsewhere this season.

Out of sight, out of mind. More like out of sight, out of pocket.
