Maybe I m being simplistic, but IF he had of said ok Mr Bankman. Ill give you back ALL my rental / investment properties, will ya leave me be in my principal private residence (Ie: my mansion)? Would that have kept him out of trouble?
I don't think so - the other properties were mortgaged with PTSB, so they were no use to IBRC.

3 years ago he evicted a single mother from one of his flats as she hadn't paid rent for 4 months after losing her job.

I made that up to make a point of how stupid it is to defend this wanker who is an accountant, landlord & I cant think of anything else so will add wanker again.

    Irish socialists are special.

They are against property tax and are up in arms when a couple with no dependants is evicted from a 2,2 million villa they cannot afford 2 years after the eviction is granted.

Are Irish socialists supporting them? I'm fairly left wing and can't see anything wrong with their eviction. I rarely have much sympathy for landlords

The whole thing sems too orchestrated. Did they get PR lessons in what to do in an eviction scenario in the past two years?
The mainstream media are treating the whole thing with kid gloves instead of getting to the truth of the situation.
The mainstream media in Ireland is complete rubbish. RUBBISH. This is the same media that either didn't spot or didn't bother reporting on the property bubble and all the FF corruption that went on for 15 years. They are useless. The more you know, the more obvious it becomes.

Irish socialists are opposed to property taxes! I'm not sure whether I am confused, or they are...

for the lower paid.....not for the filthy rich

Great, but what about all the other people living in houses for free, while lesser mortals who they outbid during the bubble are forced to rent?

The rentals would not cover the loan he has on the mansion. His rentals are probably worth feck all at the moment. They will most likely be repossessed as well.

His rentals are probably the only income the bank is getting. Better to be getting €50 per month instead of €0 per month. His 'Family home' was probably the biggest loss from his 'property portfolio'...

This man is an Accountant with serveral other properties leased and yet he had no place to sleep last night, this family home was in a gated area!!! Himself and his wife slept outside the house last night!!. For god sake what a staged pr stunt. Have RTE anything else to report on only this rubbish.
There are several families struggling to pay mortgages and only own 1 house.

Why is RTE wasting time reporting this rubbish when there are some many other homeless people living in Dublin.

What a waste of our TV licence money.

Taxes are surely for everyone? The more property you have, the more tax you pay - why is that not fair?

If any journos happen to be reading this - do some digging around and find out if this fella has evicted anyone himself. In which case, REPORT IT in your newspaper.

We have no idea what he actually owes because he will not say. If he has four other houses they are probably not worth a million between them. It would not make since for the bank to offer him a way out by taking these instead.

that is fair - but the way things are going now, it's the filthy rich being given breaks, left right and centre with the people at the bottom of the ladder getting screwed to the same level as that fat cats. Is that fair.

you should read up on exactly what socialism is before throwing the word around willy nilly. this is NOT a case of socialism.

I think the people "feeling sorry" for this couple, are more of the "Im alright, fat cat brigade" and has nothing got to do with socialism whatsoever. Socialists have more cope on I would imagine. ;-))

on a side note: why was that woman running around the street outside saying to keep away from her car , it was private property or something - there was nobody near her car, and the person she was screaming at was on the public road. Also the one behind the camera - was she needing to sneeze during the recording - there was very funny noises come from her.

A 2million mortgage/loan at his age would probably mean that the monthly repayments are huge as there's no way banks will give him a 30year mortgage. He way way over extended himself. No one else to blame.

God, talk about going for dramatic effect here.

No sympathy at all for someone that failed to take any responsibility for his property portfolio in two years.

Let him sleep outside the gate for as long as he likes. It will wear thin the moment the press move on to another story.

They had nowhere else according to Kelly, this was the family home etc etc. You would have sworn that they would have to live homeless in the street from now on. Absolutely no mention of any other properties they could have moved into.

Sounds like a bit of a Bully to me ....roaring and shouting as he was "manhandled".

Thankfully the Sherriffs boy's did not fall for that kind of shyte and slung him out pronto.

loved the bit on the radio interview where he daid his finances had "improved considerably" in the last three weeks...must have found some accounts that he had "forgotten" about.

Never forget that these gimps are responsible for their own actions and it appears to me that this guy and his wife wish to continue living in their gated mansion and expect the taxpayers (you and me ) to pay for it.

Nah pal ! good try...not this time.....

I believe that the top 10% of earners pay 44% of Irish taxes (although I'd have to find a source for that before I swear to it). It sounds to me like the people at the bottom are getting an easy ride, and it's the people in the middle who carry the can for everyone.

In his haste to be seen as the first politician on 'our' side, he didn't read the facts of the story. In fairness, he looks about 17.

    :D:D

    Cringe for him!

They have set up camp outside the house, how sad and pathetic these two really are. They should get no publicity for this.

Is there any neighbourly love in this estate in Killiney???. If one of my neighbours were evicted and had no place to slept that night only outside their evicted house I would offer them a room in my house.

They've had two years to plan for this ;) What's the bet he has been practising his 'man handling' dance in front of the mirror for weeks.

As for the original footage with the sniffling... who was that? His daughter? ;)

A wing even? Just for the first night. :D

Of course they could have gone somewhere, but it doesn't add to the story if they went and stayed with relatives/hotel.

    No-where to go, my *rse.

Are their other properties residential properties? If so then they are by no means 'homeless'.

With 35 days notice they could have moved into one of their other properties.
