Replace engine in Passat

I have a 2004 TDI 130bhp VW Passat with 158000 miles that appears to have seized its engine. The question is now if its worth buying a second hand engine and getting it fitted or do I cut my losses and go and buy another car. How much would I expect to pay for a secondhand engine and what would it cost to get it fitted. There is a full two years NCT on the car and it was going perfect. Still trying to find out how the engine seized.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

May well be the crank bearings and associated thrust washers, usually down to oil starvation. Friend buys a fair few of these and repairs them for resale - repair is usually fairly involved and requires a bit of skill especially if the damage goes further than the crank and journals - often the crank has shifted forward and worn past the thrust washers, damaging the block. Tried Traynors etc to see if they have an engine suitable?
