Is it my imagination or are there more occupational therapy scholars in this one year than in the past 20? or longer?!

There were only two OT scholars ever until this year (1998 and 2011). Now we have five more! So proud.

Congratulations to all the new scholars and commiserations to those who missed out. Regardless, you should all be so proud of yourselves for even attempting them.

Foundation get to vote on some college rules, Non-Foundation don't...

No luck unfortunately - and getting 66% makes me feel even worse about it; thought I was a little closer at least - I don't know what they want!
Seriously tired with college, (not because of the grade, that's my own lack of work really), but Schols would really help make me keep motivated to stay in college.

Ah sure, get through the last year and leave it behind - it's a humbling experience not succeeding like that, even if I only wanted a good feeling from it.

Well done everyone who did get it, I hope you've really enjoyed the day and continue to enjoy what lies ahead :D

This never actually comes up in practice.

I think the thing with foundation is that there's ~70 (?) foundation scholars at any one time (that's in total), so the top x new scholars will be foundation scholars, where x is the number of expiring foundation scholars, as it were. If this explanation makes any sense.

Yep, thats it in a nutshell. There can only be 70 at a time, and I'm fairly sure there are some restrictions in place to prevent too many foundation scholars coming from the one department.

In addition to the voting rights (which has never come up in my time), foundation scholars, along with certain fellows form part of the ownership structure of college (this does not mean you can sell it, it was originally put in place to prevent a sale of college, same with voting rights).

But in reality, nobody cares, you have schols either way. Enjoy living in Goldsmith next year.:D

Don't think about it like that. Schols is hard to get for a reason, and the difference between getting it and not getting it can be one bad exam day. It's a pity exemptions were done away with since this was a great acknowledgment of the hard work put in. 66% is a great mark in Schols. Even staying through the exams til the end is an achievement, Lots of people have a bad day and call it quits, you need staying power to finish the exams.

I think the only place you get a vote is on changes to the College statutes. Not sure if the 1966 and 2010 consolidations counted as changes.
It was only yesterday when flicking through my friend's booklet that I discovered schols get a Seanad vote.

Cheers! It's just been a tough year trying to Class Rep, mentor students, family tear aparts and it being my JS year (degree has taken a hit I can tell ya!) - Besides vowing to myself to make sure I go for it this year, it was what I saw as a great boost to end an exhausting (but good in its own way though) year.

I reckon though I've just been typing under a straight-away response - I'm feeling a lot better about it now on this day after.
Kind of exciting to think now I'll be leaving academics for a good while at least (as I was thinking of going on to do Postgraduate/PhD with Schols) or at least pursuing a much more creative course like in Pulse College (when or if I wrangle up the money :))!

I hope everyone who didn't get it may feel the same that it could mean a new, exciting direction in life - I now might even have the chance to "pioneer" my dancing style :D

Congrats to all who got it. For anyone who didn't get schols, where can you get your results? How long will they be up for?

I had to go to my dept office last year(engineering).

The general rule is that if you stay on for a postgrad, then you can stay on campus for free one summer. This is usually the summer between your penultimate and final year of schols, that is, your 4th and 5th year. However, if you do a Masters then they often allow you to stay on campus for the summer of your thesis; but they seem to have changed this from campus to Trinity Halls now in the last year or so.

I haven't heard of undergrad scholars getting Trinity Hall for free, and it would be a little short-sighted to take that now rather than getting campus while you are doing a PhD.

    Congratulations everyone! :D

Didn't get it myself and felt sickened when I saw how much closer to it I was than I thought. Ah well sure, I'll get over it. :P

Same! I was so close, and yet so far :P If only I hadn't been so nervous for my Spanish oral and hadn't run out of time on my last literature question... :(

No-one got it in any of the SCLLS languages this year, which is pretty bad. Makes me feel like there was never any point to trying!

Well done to everyone who got it, but also to those who tried it, it is not an easy experience!!!

No, No you won't. I felt like Frodo on Weathertop on Monday morning... If only I'd worked that little bit harder I'd be laughing all the way to commons this evening instead of a frozen pizza :/

I got it! Been a mental two days. Just a quick question about applying for rooms for those who know - do we just fill in the application by putting new scholar into the supporting statement section?

I assume so, I can't imagine much point in writing about anything else when you're already guaranteed a place, I'm sure you could leave it blank and they'd still know you're a scholar!

Your mate is the reason people around college hate scholars.

Nope, the real reason is we're all (not-so-)secretly jealous as f*ck... :P
