I'm not sure if someone has mentioned it already apologies if it has. Has Brian McLoughlin been considered for the Munster job? If not,why not?
He already has a job for next season.

He'll be head of Ulsters academy.

I don't think he wants to leave Ulster anyway.

He wants the security of a permanent position for any job, I doubt Munster would be willing to make an offer like that.

I think I could have managed Ulster this season and done pretty well. Humphreys has really got their **** together up there.

Foley to be announced as head coach in the next week or two according to the below article.

Didn't think it was confirmed. I heard Umaga was on the shortlist.

Can we not just wait until the formal annoucement is made, at this stage I'm getting dizzy following links to where this person or another is going to be selected as head coach.

can see this working if he gets the right coaching structure in place but munster definitely need to spend wisely and bring in an innovative backs coach from the Antipodes or possibly France - language barrier aside. just dont think jason holland is working for you. also, who will take over the defensive coaching duties now that tony is returning home?

Isn't Foley doing double duty as defense coach? He was defense coach last year along with head coach for Munster A.

As much as I like Foley, I'd be worried about him as head coach. This will be the coach that would have to phase out DOC, POC, Wallace, ROG et al in the next 3/4 years. I don't want to be a guy that has a history with the players.

I'd keep Foley as forwards coach where he has produced results after the "Lawrie's Ladyboys" era.

so (potential) head coach, forwards coach and defensive coach??....seems like a lot of pressure/work to put on the shoulders of a young(ish) man in his first head coaching position at one of the biggest clubs in world rugby. especially too as munster are in sonewhat of a transition period and results may well go against him for a while...this will definitely not work

While he wouldn't be my first choice, if Foley gets the job I will be behind him 100%. He is Munster to the core from his dad Brendan, sister Rosie, right the way through to his own immense contribution to Munster both on and off the field. He has succeeded in every task set to him to date. His stint with the A's last year has borne allot of fruit, he has revitalised our forwards since taking over from Fischer & didn't let anybody down when taking over from Gert Small at short notice during the 6 nations. Of course this is a massive step up from his coaching roles but to say it would be another case of "jobs for the boys" would be disingenuous... Foley will have earned his place on the ticket, no question.

Regardless of who is appointed it is an unenviable task, but I would love to for Foley to be the man to lead Munster to glory once again.

So what do we make of Brendan Fanning's article about Umaga being the favourite ?

He has benched DOC already for Ryan! Foley has a bit of history with the younger lads as the 'A' coach as well. POM made captain when POC was at the world cup even though Mick O'Driscoll was around (and he stuck with him)

And of course he has personal experience of being dropped for a hcup final in rather harsh circumstances as he had been involved in all games up to that and he was retiring?

No worries on that score with Foley. How good would it be for Keith Earls (as a centre) to have Umaga coaching him?

Munster will need a defence coach. Holland could fit that bill.

Umaga and Laulala know each other quite well.

It really is a mad rumour though, came out of nowhere.

Umaga? Ah here lads. Be a very strange appointment for lots of reasons

Fanning gets a lot right in fairness

    Can't see Umaga coming over

My immense dislike for him would be a factor for him not getting the job too

Fanning called Thorn to Leinster first as far as I remember.
