I'm finding it hard to see past a Golf or a Focus, so I'd appricate fresh input.

The wifes 04 Fiesta is a 3 door. We need a 5 door. I used to have a MK4 golf, which I loved so hence my narrow vision.

We will be looking to trade hers in (60K on the clock) - what do you reckon we get for it?

I was (shot in the dark) guessing about 2K for a trade in. And we have another 6K in cash to add to it (8K at a big big stretch). Looking for a reliable 5 door. Engine 1.4-1.6, 1.8 max. Diesel preferably, looking for low running costs. Did I say reliable?

So other than a Focus, Golf, where should I be looking? Thanks!

If you are not doing big mileage which I assume since you have an 8 year old Fiesta with only 60k miles on the clock, then you will make very little savings on buying a diesel. Your €8k will go alot further these days by sticking to petrol. Most modern diesel cars also hate short trips and may develop expensive repair bills which will whipe out any small savings you make at the pump.
