I had 8 penalty points. 2 of which are gone from today, another 2 are gone on May 8th and 2 more gone on July 4th, the remaining 2 will be gone in Jan 2014.

But my question is, I had a company car for the last year or so until recent and I am looking to purchase a car now, what is the story with the insurance? Will the premium go down each time the points go off or can i get short term insurance then renew on July 4th?

What is the best way around this?

    Thanks.

Ask the insurance companies you're getting quotes from?

As far as I know it wont, its only at renewal time it comes into effect. I'd wait until after the May deadline if possible because 4 points wont be too bad on you. I think the only thing you could do is cancel your policy and take out another, but it's probably more hassle than its worth.

I had 21 point that were due top expire shortly after renewal, 1 - 2 months, explained this to the insurance and they said they would not be considered within that time frame. The fact you have so many I would wait until after Mays drop off if possible, that way you only have 4 to contend with, insurance will take these into view but not like they would with 6 or 8.
