I've been asked by a young student to help with his environmental studies project, entitled "A formative study of the schemes available in ireland to aid in biodiversity on farms".
I can't quite get my head around the title...what the hell is a "formative study"? Any suggestions welcomed and entertained:confused::(

I think the question is asking for the 'development' of schemes in Ireland which aid biodiversity on farms. I suppose this will probably mean talking writing about various EU directives and government legislation and how these have dealt with biodiversity on farms.
