    is it true that you cant get insured on a carvan if you have provisional licence

    No definetly not. It can be done! Have friends who got insured on provisionals!. And still are!

    carvan models are normally insured under private car rates (golf/corolla/106 etc) and exceptable depending on what your use for car-van . "my use" answer wont work in insurance world. just be honest - ring or call into a branch as internet can be vague at time

    caddy/combo etc are full commericals

    To answer your question - it is possible to get insured as a provisional driver but if you're driving unaccompanied and have an accident it may void you policy as it will be conditional (and law) that you have to be accompanied at all times whilst driving on a provisional.

    On a side note - I had a carvan and although it was taxed commercial it was insured private - told insurance it was taxed commercial but they said it makes no difference as it's a car derived van.
