    Hi everyone

I have a 00 bora 2.0 automatic. The ems light came on recently - amber constant. Today I took the car out and I had to turn the ignition a few times to get it started - that never happened before. Then I noticed that while stopped the revs were dropping down to zero and it cut out a few times while stopped. I drove it for about 20 minutes and the problem cleared up a bit, but the car is still kind of stuttering a bit while idle.

I am taking it in to a indy tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what might be wrong. I am new the area and its my first time with this mechanic. I want to seem like I have a clue :)

    Thanks

It might be one of the lambda sensors, plug it in to the VAG interface and check for errors.

Did you try cleaning the Throttle Body?

Possibly coolant temperature sensor.(not unheard of with vw).

Where to start with these yokes....

It is probably a combination of any of the following: Dirty throttle body, bad coolant temp sensor, split breather hoses, split air intake hose after the MAF, broken dipstick plastic guide tube, bad MAF and the O2 sensors sooted up beyond resurrection.

It needs to go to an indy who is familiar with them and has the correct diagnostic equipment. Otherwise you will probably end up getting billed for a lot of parts you don't need.
