just wait until the 'pathway to work' scheme is unveiled next week. then you will see. gonna be a lot of forced free labour for irish business.

What is pathway to work? Is that the time limit thing?

    yes.

plenty of internships opportunities in the oireachtas "http://www.thejournal.ie/tds-jobbridge-interns-could-help-us-do-our-jobs-326890-Jan2012/) and toilet cleaning sectors await where you will learn valuable skills such as toilet bowl maintance and jizz mopping. If you are crazy enough to refuse such a golden offer for any reason..your benefits will be cut and you could be homeless

I was looking at doing an internship but i hear the company i have applied to do loads of overtime and to be honest it's bad enough to be doing a job for free without having to do loads of overtime. So my question is will i have to do all the overtime?

If the internship is with mask crusaders then yes because its in their theme tune.

    Yeah but is that enforced?

My cousin is an elctrical engineer. Fully qualified and workign the last 8 years or so till he was made redundant towards the end of last year. He was having a look at the jobsbridge site and came across a few companies advertising for peopel to basically do the full job he has qualified for but not wanting to pay while also putting "minimum 2 years experience" on the ad too

So go get paid nothing to get experience doing a job your qualified for and already have experience in?

Companies are openly taking the piss and getting work for free just so they dont have to pay someone.

I think its up to you to report abuse of the rules. Of course if you do, you likely can kiss being kept on full time goodbye...

the company would also kiss good bye to being allowed to take on interns

you would hope so, though I would have serious doubts.

Even if that happens though they have gotten whatever amount of time of free labour already. Many could well afford to have been paying someone to do the job anyway.

The highly profitable ESB can't pay someone to assist with PR, eh?

I was passing the Fas office this morning, said Id pop in and check out their computer job machine things as I hadnt checked out the fas website in a few days..

Lo and behold ANY job that was relevant to my education/experience was an internship, its so obvious this scheme is a complete slave labour numbers game.

The only way I would do one of these would be if I was "forced" (dole cut), or if the company ALSO paid 50, grand total of 288 euros for 40 hours work - LET PEOPLE HAVE SOME DIGNITY FFS

You'd have to enforce it yourself and not let the company exploit you. Of course if you do this you have no chance of a job with them after the internship, if indeed there ever was a chance of a job.

So then you report them and keep at it - if you don't these companies will just keep exploiting the next guy/gal in line.

Companies are not allowed ask for experience. It's under the rules of jobbridge, so either these companies are breaking the rules or your cousin is winding you up.

    *head explodes with rage*

Is there no depth to which the cretins exploiting this scheme won't sink? Sure they'd be eejits not to- they hold all the power over the unemployed and it's a pat on the back from the government they get, instead of any repurcussions.

    Fcuking joke of a country.

You know it would just be so comforting to be a patient in that hospital, knowing that a percentage of the staff are people more or less forced to work these jobs out of fear of losing their dole, probably couldn't care less about the job at hand ( why would they? It's not like they're being paid enough to care, just to scrape by) and probably have no experience in a hospital/medical environment.

Would they not just hire a&e staff and cleaners? Presumably there were people in these paid positions before the slave programme internship came along.

    I've interviewed for 3 internships
    1) I was told they were looking for someone with experience
    2) They interviewed a number of people, then reposted the ad as a paid position
    3) Told me they'd a fantastic range of people to choose from, unfortunately you didn't get it etc etc - and are advertising for the internship still.
