    ok guys

so after a few crazy days i went for the plunge and got a 2.4 accord, its a 2004. looks good, comfortable out, lots of stamps on the log book and all the toys.

will see how it goes for juice but apparently its not as bad as you would think over a 2,0 litre accord.

paid 2,400 as low as i could haggle, seems a heck of a car for that money, think it was 22,000gbp originally. has hid lights and stuff standard.

will take some pics after i give it a scrub.

€2.2k for a '04 Accord? You got a very good deal! Well wear :)

    metallic silver.

its pounds, i am in the midlands uk, (ex pat...:p)

i bought it in a bit of haste, i got 1 key, owner said the other was lost by the wife but have since found out cloned cars usually have 1 key.

there is a government check done on the car last month so dates tally up, MOTs etc.

im not used to six gears, will take a bit getting used to, guys on the type accord forum said the 2,4 is just as good as a 2,0 for juice.

give or take, as long as you dont rag it.

    time will tell..!

here are some pics, just spent 200quid on oil, filter, iridium plugs, pollen filter wiper blades and air filter

getting an indy to put everything on for 50quid.

looks like there is cement or paint stuck on the roof, looks a bit unsightly, will see if t cut can take it off, the alloys are not great also.

Its like a copy of the 2.2 accord i bought in Altricham in November. I paid £3800 from a dealer. I have to say i love the car.

Lovely car and great spec, was on my short list when I was buying recently, couldn't find a nice 2.4 in ireland though

I'm jealous, lovley looking car, my only gripe is the single reverse light on the back, so many manufacturers doing it now and I think it ruins the back of car.

have not drove much as im wrecked from the going but initial thought are its like a maybach compared to a mondeo 1.8

everything works as they should, got HiD lights too as i saw the high voltage notice near the head lamps, must be a ballast.

    I'd recommend the 2.4 - considering I bought one :)

Tax is a bit rich at €960, but solid engine, confortable. I went for the Type S though. I felt the car needed a body kit.

Had one like this (2.4) and then 2.0 estate as company cars back in days. Unfortunately it was heavy on juice. Yes true, 2.4 is not much thirstier than 2.0 but I've had many 2 litre cars before and after that one and I must say Accord was the haviest on juice from all of them. Other thn that it's a very good car. Best of luck!

I plan to get the guts of 400miles on a tank, guys on the uk forum say its possible...!

but its about smiles per gallon also, i think too many people now worry about economy and the pleasure of driving is gone, hence cars like this are so relatively cheap to buy.

I would rather be stuck in this car in rush hour with all the extras and comfort than a bog standard newer car, so what if it would get you an extra 100miles on a tank.

It is, but there's a whopper of a tank on it (60 litres). I average 32mpg on mixed driving. I'd imagine the saloon is a little better.

    That's some car for 2400 !!

I'm a complete sucker for anything with a screen on the interior! :)

Looks like a bit of wear on the leather but would dye out no bother (in the process of doing this myself) and make it look brand new again!

How many miles are on it do you mind me asking? I'd hazard a guess around 80-100k maybe?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 994 ✭✭✭carbon nanotube

    108k

    stamps to 80k, missing 20k..

    but its a honda...!

just did a full service now, all the oils etc so thats 100k taken care of.

Did you change gearbox oil with the correct Honda MTF?

Might be worth a try as I had Accords and the gearchange was very good.

nope, i will take to a dealer here actually (just for this job :p)

the gear changes are good, a bit stiff maybe im not used to the box, also i notice a lot of phwooooar when going up thru the gears obviously the car has more poke so a little throttle causes some thrust.

Very nice car there. Looks great. Jealous.com :(

    Enjoy!:)

    ummmm

my accord is not so well... :$

basically went to honda dealer in leics, as i found gear changes iffy, he said clutch was dead basically. :(

should have been more careful, its creaking when you press the pedal.

no point changing MTF oil at all.

he also said the car was shuddering at low ish speeds and also veering to left, right..

    crpies..

so i went to another garage near dealership and he also said clutch is bad.

so, i went to kwik fit and got wheels balanced and did traking. hoping something would be off...! (else it could be more bad news)

thankfully the trakking was out and some weights were put on the wheels..

honda want 850GBP for clutch, all in.

too much for me, I went to a garage up the road from me and got a price of between 350-450 all in

checked the car in for a service tuesday, the gear box is ok now but continually driving like this would make even more damage.

that price seems good right?, half of what honda want..

    ridiculous

need the car soon as I am moving to scotland and have a lot of driving ahead.

    ugh...!!

on a side note, on the Motorway lots of power, 3000/4000revs or so and 80/90mph in 6th gear.

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

The price from the indy seems reasonable enough. Could have been a lot worse! you got the car at a great price so I wouldnt be too upset :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,222 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Is say thats about right the clutch on my accord went 2.0 version, rang Honda who quoted around 1000 euro mark, parts were 380 got someone to do it for 500, so price wise sounds about right.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 994 ✭✭✭carbon nanotube

yes, Im not too dissapointed, I would get a hernia to pay 850gbp.

400gbp is ok with me, its still a heck of a car, my house mate sat into it today and admired it, its clean as a new car inside.

I am not gonig to drive it much over the next few days.

on a side note, will the MTF be changed with the clutch by the indy.?

should be as good as new with new clutch.

last owners obv did not treat the car well which is a shame.

There's always going to be something wrong with any used car sooner or later!

It looks like you got a bargain to be honest, I recently bout a 2.2 diesel, but for an awful lot more!

i never in my life drove a diesel, been driving since 19.

so stuck with a lovely non eco friendly 2.4 litre lol
