Passat 6 Speed Gearbox query

Hi Guys, Test drove the following this evening at a local dealer: 2008 Volkswagen Passat, 1.4TSI Petrol which had a 6 speed gearbox. Car is genuine 1 owner with less than 30 Thousand Miles. At about 1500 to 1800 rpm in 4th gear when slowing down the gearstick vibrated quite alot. My question is like the TV show "Snog,…

Hi Guys,

Test drove the following this evening at a local dealer:

2008 Volkswagen Passat, 1.4TSI Petrol which had a 6 speed gearbox.

Car is genuine 1 owner with less than 30 Thousand Miles.

At about 1500 to 1800 rpm in 4th gear when slowing down the gearstick vibrated quite alot.

My question is like the TV show "Snog, Marry, Avoid"

Is this likely to be a simple fix or is it a sign of serious problems (and expensive!) ahead? Car was at a Non VW dealership so they were unable to offer any opinions.

What do the wize people of the motoring forum think?

Test drive a similar car and see if it behaves the same. No point in buying it with a potential expensive problem. It's not like 1.4 litre Passats are rare either.
