Loved when Evans won that header at the death to save the 3 points, could see him celebrating as if he scored a goal. Not to mention an assist and a goal in last 2 games too.

It was like a certain Serb was there..........Booooooooooommmmmm....

De Gea has improved so much, now there is no sign of discomfort when any team tries to bully him or just want to lump the ball into the box. Also even more pleasing to see is he is catching rather than just punching. Remarkable improvements in a span of few months.

RIO Ferdinand is to be offered the chance to extend his Manchester United career into his late thirties after re-establishing himself in Alex Ferguson's first team following an early-season warning that he had lost his first-choice status. But it will come at a price.

Ferdinand's current £115,000-a-week salary is likely to be reduced substantially, perhaps by as much as £50,000 per week, to reflect his age and injury record, but the added security of a further year at United would be expected to compensate for any revised agreement.

Ferdinand, who will be 34 in November, is expected to partner Jonny Evans at centre-half against Fulham tonight as United aim to open up a three-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

The former England captain had been expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with Ferguson recruiting Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as long-term replacements over the past 18 months.

But 10 years after completing a £30 million deal to sign Ferdinand from Leeds United, United are now ready to reward the defender by opening talks for a one-year contract extension before the turn of the year.

    Adapting

"Rio is adapting really well to the challenge of making sure he is fit and fresh to play in the games we need him," Ferguson said. "I think it's all down to how he feels physically within himself and what he is doing at the moment is good.

"He has no issues at all. From time to time, he gets the odd tweak in his back and we have to manage it and look after it. But it hasn't surprised me in the sense that he's still young for a centre-back.

"In normal terms, you would expect a centre-back, with his athleticism, to play well into their thirties anyway.

"But he had the back problem, so we've had to manage that and by managing it properly, he has adapted really well to it.

"He's great with the players. If you can keep the players long enough for the influence to spread - because in the modern game, as we know, it's difficult to keep players for more than five or six years - it makes a difference."

Glad to hang on to him as long as he's not being paid top dollar when he won't be 1st team.

I can only hope that late scare will focus Fergie and the squad even more.

United certainly gave a lesson in how not to close out the last 10 minutes of a game, when winning one nil. Evans deserved the MOTM, with Valencia also deserving a special mention. De Gea stepped up again when needed and dealt with the aerial threat superbly. Otherwise the majority of the team were quite meh.

Was Evra drunk tonight? Tried a scissors kick and spent a lot of time falling over for no particular reason. My heart was in my mouth every time Fulham attacked down the left flank.

Nah he just gave a typical performance really.

Thank god Valencia is playing for us. If he was facing Evra in a match it'd be 10-0 to the other team at half time.

not a great game, we were sloppy and could have been caught at the end, but 3 points is 3 points.

its all about winning now. i aint seen the penalty decision as it was down at the other end, but i got a few texts saying it was a pen.

fulham had the smallest away end in year at old trafford, it looked like they brought about 200 fans!

in general or the away end? i though the atmposphere was good at time, but as the game went on, people got nervy.

having no away supporters damages the atmosphere also.

Last night was especially awful. I've been to 7 games this season and although most of them wasn't electric it wasn't shíte though.

Wasn't great last night. Probably the worst atmosphere of any game I've been at in old trafford. Wasn't helped by how shocking united played. A lot of fans reluctant to stand and sing of do anything besides sit down and clap.

The Twitter or the Fanzine cover?

If it is the fanzine cover; they said nothing illegal. In fact it can be argued that they said nothing wrong at all.

There is an argument that the cover was a statement on the culture of grief addiction that exists, especially in England. People started to lose the run of themselves a bit to be fair.

Why was his situation more important that countless others we read about and hear about every day? The reason is because his occurred on live television. Irishman Clive Clarke's heart attack occured in a Championship team's dressing room away from the glare of the media. No outpouring there. Khalid Fadiga's on a training ground for the same team and again no outpouring.

People are so attuned to what television tells them that they are compelled to express these feelings in a most public way as possible because it occurred on television.

Whether it was for Redzone to take the mantle of commenting on such a social phenomonen is debatable. They are a niche football periodical and as such perhaps it was outside their remit to question the motivations of other footballing fraternities. The point is salient and does stand the outpouring of grief was mawkish and crass and not untypical of England.

Having said all that it was not Redzone's place and I think it was not done in a social spirit but in a tribalistic and thus mean spirit.

I have a theory that grief in England is handled thus because of the massive post-colonial hangover. Thousands upon thousands of Englishmen and women died away from thier homes and families in far flung countries in the name of exploration, exploitation and expidition. Most of them never were repatriated and as a consequence the families never had a chance to find closure. As a result their grief was often an abstract esoteric affiar where a loved one who mere memory may have been dimmed by the passage of time had to be remembered. Thus I think the British innoculation was to publicly display grief as a totem whereby people could come to remember the person and expressions of what the person meant to the family were broadcast so many could hear of thier sacrifice for the empire. I beleive this continues today and it's why you see these grief merchants clamp on to any passing.
