I agree DOC is underrated by some but there's no way he should be on a central contract at this stage.

Question: Is Ryan on a central contract now?

it was reported as an IRFU contract, so probably.

The Irish Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce that Munster and Ireland forward Donnacha Ryan has signed a new IRFU contract to remain with Munster until the end of the 2013/14 season.

    http://www.irishrugby.ie/ireland/25883.php

The above would suggest Ryan has signed a central contract.

Moving away from Ryan or DOC, does anyone else think Holland would have been better served going elsewhere? He's a decent lock and a decent flanker, but not likely to ever be an Int level one. Could do a job in the AP or possibly the Top14 whereas he'll almost certainly lose his place barring injuries in even extended squads for Munster if guys like Foley, Nagle, DOC v2.0 etc come through fully.

I thought he would be released and would have done a job somewhere else as you say, but maybe he doesn't fancy moving away from home and wants to stay settled in his personal life. Tbh someone in his position would take a 2 year deal with both hands.

Yeah, I guess. He's a great squad player to have but Munster have to be careful of having too many squad players.

    DOC?

Tony McGahan struggling with the decision too?

    I honestly don't think so.

Its fairly sad when you compare Toners number of caps & age to Nagle & Foleys. They are all excellent prospects, but at this stage Nagle & Foley are still prospects whereas Toner is on the up and up.

I know its good for Munster to have these two guys around the squad in case they are needed but it will be a long time yet before they are getting regular games.

Your'e not comparing like with like, there's two years in the difference and a squad with more competition for places in Munster - POC, DOC, and MOD would have started in most teams add in Donnacha Ryan in the last year.

I think Nagle and Foley only joined the squad this year.

If you want to do an accurate comparison - compare Nagle and Foley to Mark Flanagan, similar ages and all three joined the squads this season.

Munster Prepare For B&I Cup Semi Final
    14 March 2012, 5:22 pmBy The Editor
In preparation for the B&I Cup semi final clash against Leinster on good Friday in the RDS, Munster will play a Munster Academy/Club selection side in Temple Hill on Friday, 16th March ko 6.00pm.
For their part, Leinster warmed up for the semi final by trouncing Connacht 50-0 this afternoon, a game that saw their latest recruit Brad Thorn make his Leinster debut.
The Munster team will include David Wallace and Mike Sherry, both of whom returned from injury in the RaboDirect PRO12 game against Aironi last week-end.

Definitely out of the Munster side is Dave Foley having dislocated his shoulder but the composition of both sides will not be finalised until some time tomorrow.

*Admission for this fixture is free

Are there any rules regarding player eligibility for the B & I Cup? It says Wallace and Sherry will be playing, but I assume that's the warmup game and that they won't be playing in the semi-final?

It would probably be a bit unfair to have Wallace playing

Yep, the poor old man won't be able to keep.

There's a rumour doing the rounds that O'Driscoll might feature for Leinster A as part of his comeback. Would be bizarre to see Wallace and O'Driscoll fighting it out in an A comp on a HEC weekend.

The rumors I'm hearing are bod will be back for ospreys next week, but who knows.

I've heard Cullen returning in the B&I cup semi final.

BOD back for Ospreys off the bench and starting in Thomond supposedly

    That's definitely not fair!!

bloody cheating Leinster bringing back BOD for an A game.....probably be outplayed by JJ anyway. Who is this BOD guy anyway??:mad:

For an actual competition like that, you'd think there would be some rule about players having to have played in the earlier rounds to compete. Though I suppose it has to be used to get players back to full fitness... though the AIL should be utilised aswell.

Competition regulations here. TBF nothing wrong with players not playing in earlier rounds and then playing the semi or final
I prefer pros getting back to full fitness in A games than AIL.Gets rid of pros v amatuer situations

Which would be especially unfair in the cases of Wally and BOD starting back via the AIL.. :pac:

It'll be interesting to see the teams for tomorrow's game. Hanrahan will be with Ireland so he may not start the semi-final.

Well he will be but the coach might feel better going with who's been training at 12 up til now. I don't think we should overplay Hanrahan and hype him to the last, he has some way to go anyway, imo.

There's a case to be made that the development team has better outhalves than the A team.

Well that's true but to develop, games against decent opposition will help. And Leinster A will be pretty strong, they've definitely got one of the deepest squads in Europe.

What's the story with the a team there? How cone they have an extra 2 and 13?

It's sorta a commons sub bench between the two sides, so Munster A could bring on Burke if they wanted to.

This extract is taken from the Munster site.
Murphy, Williams and prop Ryan have penned two year deals while Horan and Scanlon have agreed one year extensions.
In addition, JJ Hanrahan (centre), Dave O’Callaghan (wing-forward), Luke O’Dea (wing), Cathal Sheridan (scrum-half) and Alan Cotter (prop) progress from Academy to Development contracts.

The article also refers to WDP and Dougies contract extensions. We've added Sean Dougal too, dont know anything about him.

Munster sign Sean Dougal from Rotherham as well. Decent young Irish openside released by ulster last year. Fair addition to the back row.

At least its nice to know the provinces are keeping an eye on the first division Irish lads.
