Honda Civic - Suspension Very Hard

I have a Honda Civic (2011 - petrol - 1.4). I like the car, but it is very harshly sprung - it is uncomfortable on poorly surfaced back roads.

Could I change the rear shock absorbers to something a bit softer? I get the impression that it is the rear of the car is where the problem is.

I just want softer - but I don't want that car to wallow all over the place.

    Any ideas or recommendations?

What size/profile tyres are on it?

As above and also its hard springs that can cause a harsh ride.

Bridgestone 205/55/R16. Not low profile, so I assume that it is not the tyres.

The stiff suspension is not unique to my car - a few Civic owners that I know complain about it too.

I recall, years ago, I had a Japanese import - a Carina - and it had the opposite problem - suspension far too soft. A new set of shocks at the rear cured that. That is why I am asking if a softer set of shocks would cure my problem - which is the opposite of my issue with the Civic

Have the same problem with a 2016 Honda Jazz, it would shake the s*** out of you on secondary roads, thinking of going for a Renault, they all have lovely soft suspension, good looks but not much else.
