Should we also close every forums off-topic threads sure there is an after hours forum after all discussing it in two locations is beyond rediculous:rolleyes:

I can't seem to find a grammar and spelling forum, perhaps this might be of some assistance.
Good one! Did you think of that all by yourself?

    That's much better.

I really dont see the point in having a new thread every week for each gameweek. It's a bit frustrating to have to come back in here to see resub to another thread. There is no benefit to having a different thread very week. It's not as if someone will come into this forum and post in the old thread from three gameweeks ago. I think that the only one that possibly deserves a new thread every week is the captain thread and that's simply due to a poll being there.

There should be a natural progression between the gameweeks, something that isn't really happening with the current system

i.e different gameweek --> 5 new threads about the same thing as the last time

Ans since some gameweeks last 3-4 days of action the easiest thing to keep this forum organised as well as keeping it easy to navigate/find threads about what you want is to have separate threads about the different topic, but dont make new threads for the different gameweeks. I see no reason as to why a new thread should be made every week for those topics.

This is how I feel about the "transfers" thread we have each week. Not really sure what that adds to the forum that can't be in Rate My Team, or general discussion. In fact, I'd say it has really hindered the growth of the Rate My Team thread.

I'd argue through that the seperate Matchday threads are useful, simply because of how they can contain useful info in the first post each week. The thing most people who wanted a new forum had to say was something along the lines of "too much info gets lost", so having all team news and starting line-ups in the OP of a Matchday/Team News thread is a fairly useful thing to have.

True, but like you say you can't edit that after 3 days.

An awful lot of the post in the threads seem to be
"i'm doing x,y,z this week" lots of statements of intent and little discussion, especially in the weekly "gwxx transfers" threads that pop up around 11.35 or so on a saturday morning

Something to be looked at for the rest of the season i think with definitive guidelines for next season.

Yeah that's definitely the one part that sucks, but I would add that we'd usually have all games played on the weekend, then the odd game on Monday is an exception. So missing just one game won't be too much of a hindrance. Plus I'm sure Moon or Ade could take the 30 seconds out to do it if they happen to be on at the time.

Yup, I think that's the main thing every visitor to the forum needs to think about. The mods have been clear that we're in a transition phase right now, and the best we can do is get things right for next season.

That one really annoys me ok. The 1st games of the week haven't even kicked off yet and people are looking at transfers for NEXT week?!!

Prices only go up overnight so if the player you are looking at is playing on saturday how about waiting to make sure he doesn't break a leg or something before you bring him in? Unless a player is due to rise/drop in price I don't see the point (bar limited internet access) of making transfers until closer to the following weeks deadline.

You would swear that there was a limit on the amount of people who could transfer in a certain player. Saying that, I have no idea how we stop someone opening such a thread at 11.35!

Why would you stop someone from opening a (currently) perfectly valid thread. From the deadline at 11:30 up until the next deadline they are able to make transfers, so why not let them discuss them. You can't stop them discussing it because you wouldn't want to make transfers that early.

I never said we should, I just said I wouldn't know how to IF we wanted to. It was in response to an earlier poster who was complaining about there being too many threads and it cluttering up the place.

The suggestion made is that there should just be a 'Transfers Thread' rather than individual GW threads, which I agree with.

I disagree, I like the weekly transfer threads.

I think it provides a better way to jump right to the info that you're interested in.

In fact, I think the forum has been running quite smoothly the past week or so.

Yep, gotta agree. Its working well and possible to avoid stuff you arent interested in (personally I dont bother with the RMT thread) and the other threads dont get out of control too quickly and the posts keep mostly on topic.

There does seem to be a bit of one-upmanship and told you so type posts between certain posters and this may something the mods might want to have a look at, but probably before next season. That said I guess this is the type of game though that easily breeds a know it all type of contributor so it may well be something the resto f us have to put up with, and ignore the minority while they go at it.

a lot of people think about and make transfers as soon as possible. you don't want to read about it, don't open the thread.

I don't open the thread, never said I did, as you will notice if you read my quote again. I was agreeing with a previous poster who clearly felt it was a bit ridiculous to be opening a transfer thread for next week before this weeks games had started.

It goes back to the point of having a general 'Transfers thread' rather than opening up a weekly one which, IMO does clutter up the forum needlessly.

transfers and captaincies are the two "choices" to be made every week (apart from subs) and the majority of discussion every week will be about that so i don't see a problem with a thread for each gameweek.

lads we have an entire forum now, if we were to only have three or four threads, what's the point of having it? keeping clutter threads down needs to be done, but within reason.

I agree with this. And I don't think anyone is trying to cut it down to only three or four threads. It's more a discussion about whether specific threads should be weekly threads or a superthreads. Outside of those two options, I don't think anyone is saying there shouldn't be any other kind of self-contained threads. There'll be plenty of others.

Its a fantasy sports forum, not just a fpl forum. It should only have three or four threads at a max, you have to give the other leagues a chance :)

true enough. it'll always be heavily slanted towards FPL though, huge userbase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,844 ✭✭✭carlcon

On that note; it's probably advisable that the mods make sure all posts are marked as "FPL" or an equivalent marker to avoid it looking too messy for fans of other fantasy sports.

Most do, but sometimes people forget, and a quick edit wouldn't hurt.

[FPL] - has been added to the majority of FPL related thread titles now. Left the General Footy one as it is, as it is just that. A general thread. CL and EL can be discussed there too as there is no threads currently for that, and probably understandable as it's very late on in the season.
