That could be a good fight. Will tell us a lot about Ormond.

Ormond is completely untested and I am delighted that the Mitchell fight was pulled.

Appleby has mixed in better company, with mixed results. However, I see this as Ormond's coming out party. He has a great style, I remember seeing him on on his FW debut and getting really excited. I just hope he can keep developing his power.

I have never been altogether convinced by Appleby as a fighter. He wasn't particularly competitive against Lindsay and I thought he was well beaten by Joseph Laryea. I may venture to the betting shop.

    Definitely not a banker.

why would you think that he's as short as 5/4 now

I'm not saying he has no chance I just definitely wouldn't say he's a "banker"! I'd give him a 30-40% shot at winning.

Well if you take there amateur pedigree into play ormond would be 1/3 , three times senior champion and Phil Sutcliffe once said to me he was a bit special compare to the other pros he has trained.

what an absolutely bullsh!t call. Total hometown decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭duagre

Far from a terrible decision. I had it 96-95 for Ormond, but it was a very close, good fight. Over the 12, I think Ormond just deserved it that little bit more, but I could see a narrow Appleby win with the deduction.

Was a close fight draw would have done no harm to them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭runboyrun

it was a tough fight for ormond because of his lack of experience but at 29 he can't take it too slow

close fight, if ormond had good power it would have been over because he landed flush with full power a couple of times

he should learn and come back better

ye it was close but its what you call a hometown calll! if that was in a nuetral place or in dublin stephen would have won no doubt!

Boxing is gone to the dogs regarding some decision making by judges, its killing the sport! Home decision me hole, this shouldnt be allowed to happen, Stephen won the fight as he was the aggressor throughout the fight, I seem to recall Lamont Peterson getting the decision v Khan because he was the aggressor!

Just a heads up haven't seen it mentioned on here but Stephen is fighting tonight for the vacant WBU Lightweight world title against Istvan Kiss of Hungary, best of luck to him would love to see him pull it off.

No pulling it off needed, Ormond is the heavy favourite and it would be a massive shock to see him lose here.

Interestingly boxrec have him down to face a different Hungarian journeyman instead (Laszlo Balogh), no idea if the WBU bauble in still on the line, but probably they'd sanction that for anything.
Hopefully Stephen can get himself some proper fights after this, because he's a very talented fighter and his ability is wasted taken on continental journeymen.
