    I'm thinking of buying the MacBook Pro next week and like buying any Apple product you gotta be wary of the next verison coming out before you buy.

    I know the MacBook Pros were updated in October '11 but Intel is releasing its next generation processor soon so i presume Apple will upgrade the MacBook Pro line soon after that.

    Thoughts?

    btw my current laptop is on its last legs and may not make it another month. So i cant wait too long for a new laptop but dont wait to shell out on a MacBook Pro if its going to be outdated in a couple of months.

    Loads of rumours of major update to MacBook air type pros this year. Seem to be solidifying but nothing more than that as yet.

    Mac Buyers guide puts it in neutral - mid-product cycle. I myself don't see a new one being released for a good while. It's only been 114 days and updates are usually much longer.

    Intel's Ivy Bridge chipset won't be available until April/May so there is unlikely to be a new Apple refresh before then unless Apple intend to stay with the current chipset for another generation.

    If you need a new MBP now keep an eye on the Refurbished Store. The products are cheaper and may have a higher spec than those in the retail store. They also come with the same Apple warranty as products purchased from the retail store.

    You've answered your own question there. What do you use your laptop for, I highly doubt the current model can't do what you want. And no, it won't be outdated in a few months, it will still be capable of doing the same work as it is today.

    OP I'm in the same boat - gagging for the new models to come out.

    Saw this today though :(

    The only suitable response is....

    :pac:

    Though who knows with these rumours. Currently I'm flipping between snapping up one from the refurb store or waiting till new one.

    jester I'm waiting for specific reasons - for example workspace is super important to me as I frequently have multiple documents open at once - having the fabled retina display in a laptop would be amazing to me. I use an external monitor when I can, but if I'm on the road I don't have that option. Yet who knows till they release new model. If I bought current one, even the hi res version I might well be kicking myself in a few months time.

    The spec on the new MBP looks so sweet too.

    Although;
    SSD + HIGH RES SCREEN + IVY BRIDGE = CRAZY MONEY MENG

    I can imagine the base price for the new models to be far above 1500 - 2000 euro.
