It will be interesting to see the Munster selection when they deem Jones ready (let's not rush him).

IMO Jones is the best 15 Munster have but it would be harsh for Hurley to be benched with Murphy starting on the wing, even though Hurley is a much better 15 than wing.

Not much place for sentiment in sport though. Hope Jones can get a long long of fitness.

Try Hurley as a centre. He's got wonderful hands.

Don't see it, for a big guy he's bad at using his size to his advantage.

Have you not seen him for the last number of months? He's been very Halstead-esque imo with his offloading in the tackle.

I think his offloading has improved but he's a big guy, he should be capable of smashing through tackles, too often he doesn't.

The ex-Leinster youth collected his three Ireland caps after consistent performances for Munster last season as he ousted Paul Warwick from the number 15 shirt.

My current list of petty annoyances in media coverage/internet discussion of rugby consists of:

    • Repeated references to Felix Jones's Leinster origins, even after how many seasons at Munster?
    • Breaking news- David Kearney is Rob Kearney's younger brother!!!
    • Ireland needs a cheating natural number 7 that knows how to stretch the rules
That's it for now, I'm sure I can think of more though!

Niall Ronan's Leinster past is still often referred to. Ross Boss and Redden often have their past provinces referred to.

Ulster apparently have 15 South Africans playing for them and no Irish men at all.

Do they not have a few on the bench too?

Unfortunately, no matter how much you want it to change, along with Niall Ronan, Ian Keatley, Johne Murphy and James Downey, he'll always be a Leinster product who ended up at Munster, as Ruddock would have been if he didn't turn down the contract also.

The one I hate the most is when a high ball is caught that they were only able to do so because of a GAA back round.

All the Irish squad members bar the starting XV selected for the French game will be released for provincial duty this weekend, so Munster will have Ryan, POM and ROG available for the trip to Treviso.

I would have Earls involved in the Munster game too, he hasn't played for nearly a month now. Doesn't look likely though.

Hopefully the Italian weather has cleared up so this trip to Italy will go ahead!

Did Ruddock turn down Munster afterall?

Munster alluded to it last week on their website. Don't think they actually officially made him a proper offer.

It's on Munster's website, oddly enough.

"Ruddock is also understood to have decided to remain with Leinster rather than accept the Munster offer."

According to the Munster site site Earls is back as well, and looks like he'll get a game

Ruddock is a welsh product surely?

Tbh, I've been fairly impressed by both TOD and Butler this season, I don't think the move made sense for Ruddock or for Munster. TOD is back playing after his injury against Ulster, hopefully either he or Butler will get a start against Treviso, though Kidney might want POM picked at 7.

Seems Leinster want yet another Munster player to go along with Cronin, Ross, Reddan and Fitzgerald.

Donnacha Ryan considers shock move to Leinster as Brad Thorn deal gives Schmidt's men temporary lift

Can't see Ryan going for it myself, would be hilarious to see the reaction on here if Leinster had three Munster players in their tight 5 though.

I'd imagine that's his agent doing a bit of fishing... and it's also coming from the indo...

Yeah wouldn't put too much stock in it. DR is first choice ahead of DOC and is playing well for one of Europe's top teams. Can't see him moving.

Is he though? I'd like to see the stats, but pretty sure DOC has more starts.. but that's probably down to Ryan's ability to cover backrow too...

EDIT: actually on first glance Ryan does have more starts, sorry. Stand to be corrected tho.

you never know though, training ground bust up, taking Lar's retirement badly, could be any number of things that'd drive a Tipp man to do something reckless.

dont see it happening tbh, might be in rugby club in nenagh tomorrow and may find out if anyone in the club has heard anything concrete.

He's got 5 starts in the heineken this year ahead of 1 for DOC and will definately get the most gametime he's ever got for munster in a season this season
DOC has 6 starts and 6 sub appearances this season
DR has 9 starts and 1 sub appearance

No idea of the stats, but his versatility certainly helps. Personally, as I see it, he's ahead of DOC in the pecking order, or at the very least it's in transition towards doing so.

EDIT: sorry, just saw your edit there.

    True that.

Ryan doesnt strike me as kind of guy who'd "use" the media as leverage in contract negotiations.

    Couple of scenarios stand out.
    1 - it's waffle
2 - he's after a central contract but with DOC and POC both on them it may not be possible to get one at Munster
3 - Leinster rocked the **** out of the both when they realised extent of Leo's absence and made silly promises to IQ second rows that Ryan is considering.
    4 - yeah it's waffle

I'd love Ryan at leinster but realistically its very very unlikely.

It'd be a massive blow for that Munster pack's future post-POC
