Flip of a coin I reckon. There's no reasoning behind it as far as I can see.

But presumable it has a fairly real affect on the players performance?

Yes definitely. If they've increased in stats you'll see that. One example I have is in another franchise I'm in, we've just entered the 3rd season and I'm the real Jaguars team. Gabbert has increased big time each season and now has 95 short and medium throwing which has improved the way I play and I can now trust him on throws.

    Players have potential, A, B, C, D and F

A: Up to one hundred, well ninety nine anyway
    B Eighty to Eighty nine
    C Seventy to Seventy Nine
    D Sixty to Sixty Nine

    F, afaik these never improve

The potential is the max limit, no gurantee your player will ever reach that, they may never even come close

Age is a factor, most improvements in the first few seasons

As they get older the ratings will go down.
Position plays a factor too. Donavan McNabb was thirty four and dropped two points. A HB at that age would drop hugely. A LB not so much. A CB would sink a lot

All very general, there are exceptions for everything but that's how I understand it

Edit, I'm reading above now it's flip of a coin?
    So maybe I'm all wrong

And now to the shops and this keyboard is bust and I have to type every number

You are correct with this. I meant it was a flip of a coin in regards how much a player goes up. He could have a 5000 yard season as a QB and go up 2 points or have a 2000 yard season full of INTs and could go up 6 or 7. That's the randomised bit.

It has bog all to do with his in-game performance or play count though.

Year Name Team Att Yards Avg TDs
    2011 James Starks Browns 34 129 3.8 3
    2011 Jahvid Best Titans 198 872 4.4 8
    2011 Dexter McCluster Browns 4 25 6.3 1

    Starks, A pot, 26YO, went from 77 as a backup to 87. +10
    Best, B pot, 24 YO went from 80 as a starter to 85. +5
    McCluster, B Pot, 24 YO, went from 76 as a 3rd string to 81. +5

My favourite (as a Pats fan, Hernandez owner, and wannabe Gronk owner)

    Hernandez - 65 receptions, 1075 yards, 1 TD: (age 22, A potential): 82 > 85 (+3)
    Gronkowski - 35 receptions, 401 yards, 2 TDs: (age 23, A potential): 84 > 95 (+11)

    +11???! Baffling...

I think these are overall ratings and don't change per individual franchise.

I could be wrong on that though...

    Adding to the TE discussion

    J. Graham 64 Reception, 864 Yards, 3 TD's, (age 23, A potential) 77 > 84 +7

I think you are right there.

The progressions that other people have listed on page 6 and 7 here match up with our own progressions.

Does that mean we could potentially Trade for underrated players, knowing that they'll have the greatest progression?

Are you able to trade with the CPU teams? If so, how long does it take for them to decide on your offer?

Buying a new subscription for Xbox Live and found 14 months Xbox Live Gold membership available here, just thought I'd throw up the link in case anyone needs it:

''10 minute dispatch'', so I guess the code is emailed.

Are you going to join Paully D?

It's week one, could not be a better time to join

I think I will actually, now that it's at the start.

    Two problems:

    1) My mic isn't working, is this a problem?

    2) I really am terrible and could easily go 0-16 :pac:

Is there somewhere I can see the ratings and roster of the teams that are available to join?

Is there anything else I need to know? League rules, etc?

Guys, I'm still trying to unload Britt or Welker. If anyone has a good RG (center help also needed) and would like either of these make me an offer.

    Paully take a look here.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77016431&postcount=2637

theese are the current stats of each team.
We've 1 out of 32 teams with human players.

Mic isnt a big issue but you'll miss the banter tbh
Also it hasnt been a great start for a lot of people!
Rules are in the first post of this thread

Jesus, there's a serious amount of work gone into that spreadsheet, it's great! Is it possible to see what teams are available for me to pick, or did you mean there's only 1 team I can pick? Sorry I didn't quite pick you up there.

The rules seem excellent actually, I haven't played Madden online in a while (mainly due to not having the time in the evenings) but another big reason is due to people always going for it on 4th down etc, at least here there's none of that really and the rules are fair.

I'll dig out a mic during next week anyway, it seems a lot easier for letting the opponent know what you're doing with regards to no huddles, fake field goals, etc.

So, I'm in! (if it's OK with the other members of course). What do I need to do next?

    Thanks :)

Paully, have a look back through the thread there's been a few excel sheets, graphs etc, our professional lives defintely suffer :)

No you can pick any team, but some of the divisions have less human teams I think AFC west could do with another human team but Santry can confirm.
We have fairly strict rules on game play (as detailed in the first post) but we have very few issues with people breaking the rules (i think!).

The commish which is Santry will need to send you an invite to the madden league and also and invite to the LM site.

The Titans eager to change things up after a humbling by the Buccs see experienced operators Maurkice Pouncey (C) and Will Allen (CB) head to Oakland.

in return the Titans get some youth in

    MLB Lawrence Timmons
    Centre Dylan Morgan
    WR Kenny Britt

The Titans will have a top class LB defense but after trading away both highly rated CBs it could be an area of concern. This will be the are where the Titans GM will be aiming for speedy youth to overcome the lack of experience.

    Steelers
    Jags
    Dolphins
    Patriots
    Chiefs
    Chargers

    Vikings
    Saints
    Cowboys
    Redskins
    Seahawks

I'm more then happy to be corrected here, just what I reckon

I think it's best Paully if you join the AFC West or NFC East, try to balance the divisions a bit

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,747 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

You got it mike, you have 11 teams there + 21 = 32

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,557 ✭✭✭madalig12

Giants/Rams is gonna have to be simmed as it keeps bombing out after we intive each other. We were able to play outside the franchise so it looks like an EA glitch. Disappointing but nowt we can do about it.

Berty and Davo to go and then we can advance :) Hopefully we can do it by Monday so then we can begin the cycle of 3 games per 2 weeks ;)

Have the lads scheduled their game yet?
Dont think they've posted if they have or not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

    Cheers for that lads.

Just had a quick look through the rosters and I'd be happy to take an AFC West or NFC East team to balance things up. Out of those 2 divisions we have the Cowboys, Chiefs or Chargers.

I'd personally prefer the NFC East Cowboys because they seem to have the best roster and it would help me get used to the standard. Having a decent QB in Manning on my team (although no doubt he'll retire in the game after my first season and I'll be screwed :pac:), but if we absolutely need another human team in the AFC West I'll take the Chargers as they seem to have an OK, youngish team with some potential perhaps. What do you think?
