see where danny barnes played at 12 for dolphin today in the AIL,is he not in the picture anymore?
Cant say he's out of the picture at all, Munster and Munster A didnt have games this weekend so its not an issue.

Dropped like a stone after going through a patchy period. Hes not a great player but a solid squad player who you could trust to do a job.

On the bench for three weeks in a row with Munster no match last week (Munster didn't play) and no match with Munster this week, he probably wanted a game to knock off any ring rustiness.

He will probably start for the next three Munster matches and he probably wanted to be ready to put a claim down for further involvement.

Munster players outside the 6Ns squads had a rest week-end so I suppose some played for their clubs.

On that did anyone hear if Luke O'Dea played for Shannon or is he still out injured?

What's happened Barnes? He was looking like a real prospect around April/ may.

Nothing really. He's done well in his games this season except for Castres away, he's just behind Zebo for the wing spot and Earls for the 13 place. Think we're going to look at him as a 12 for the minute.

He was playing well but then again he was getting his game. Not as much opportunity this season and he hasn't been playing as well.

Tbh I don't ever see him rising above the level of Gleeson et al.

think JJ has a bit more class at 12

He's already well above Gleeson, imo.

As a 12, probably. I'd like to see more of Barnes at 13.

Lenihan thinks he'll get some Rabo time between now and the end of the season.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of O'Dea and Scanlon too. O'Dea in particular looks like a good prospect.

It'll be interesting to see who makes the backline next week. TOL, Keatley, Zebo, Mafi, Barnes, O'Dea, Hurley (with Jones hopefully on the bench).

Scanlon won't get a game till next season apon which he'll be MOTM again and dropped for the next game again.

O'Dea will be rewarded for his fine form by Munster signing 2 wingers in the summer.

Odd statement to make considering we're seeing loads more of guys like Zebo and O'Dea this season. Tbf, i don't remember anyone hyping O'Dea before the start of the season.

With Jones to come back and Hurley in decent, albeit limited, form, maybe Scanlon should move on.

I didn't realise that we had 4 out 5 games away during the 6Ns.
While Munster's Irish contingent turn their attention to Paris and the clash the French, the Munster squad switch their focus to RaboDirect PRO12 and five matches that could define their League campaign. Four of those are away from home, starting next weeekend in Aironi and they stay on there to play Treviso a week later.

Then it's Cardiff Blues in Thomond Park Stadium before they head for Rodney Parade and Galway's Sportsground, two March fixtures against sides who will be at near full strength.

I'm not sure about TV coverage for the two away Italian games.

According to munsterrugby the Aironi game on sunday is on tg4 and the Treviso game the following Saturday is on an italian channel RAI.

Keith Earls and Denis Leamy extend their contracts, until 2014.

Aironi game unlikely to go ahead with freezing temps in Italy.

Denis Leamy on an IRFU contract until 2014?

    Fcukin madness.

Think the BBC article has got it wrong. The IRFU press release doesn't specify international contracts which it has done with all their international deals over recent years. Earls might be but I wouldn't buy that Leamy is on one.

If Howlett and Jones hadn't gotten injured you wouldn't even know what Luke O Dea looked like (general statement, you probably watch a bit of B&I Cup).

Munsters new found trusting in youth is purely injury driven. You know they're going to resort to type with their signings in the summer.

Ireland duo Keith Earls and Denis Leamy have signed IRFU contracts tieing them to Munster until 2014.
Is this incorrect then? Id be much happier with just that.

I think so. Of course, I could be wrong. I'd be inclined to go with the IRFU's own press release though which doesn't specify international contract and just says signed with the IRFU to play for Munster. In all previous releases for Healy, ROG, DOC, BOD, DOC, Heaslip, POC and Sexton it always specified that it was an international contract. The IRFU release almost seems purposely ambiguous though.

Agreed if its central usually they say signed to play for Munster and Ireland

Great that they did but it's hardly surprising, I guess some day one of the Irish provinces will lose one of their stars to a foreign club, especially, if the economy keeps on it downward spiral.

I thought the likes of Nagle would get a chance here to set out their stall during the 6Ns games. Also, will this lead to fixture congestion or is there a free week-end somewhere for the re-scheduled game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

I think there's a couple of free weeks in march.
