    Hi

I have a laptop with windows 7 home and a desktop with windows 7 ultimate. i want the 2 of them to be networked through my wireless router. Both of them are on a workgroup of the same name. when i go to run box type in the computer name i want to access i get a enter network password prompt. i had no passwords set up on either computer at the time. when i click on network i can see both computers on the network but when i try to connect to the other computer i can get so far and then i am to i need permission off the administrator. This is really annoying me as i have tried a number of things. when i try to change it to a home network rather than a work network it always revert back to the work network. Sharing and broadcast are turned on and the password option is turned off

I would be grateful for any advise.

    Regards

    Have you tried establishing passwords?

It sounds like the network wizard was used at some point to set up a home group, this generates a password needed to view pc's on the network.

just a note , on some access points there is a setting called AP isolation, this means that computers connected wirelessly can't see each other

    Hi

Have you any idea where I can find this setting. When I check both computers the other computer is visible when I go to network. I can go in and acess so much from either computer but get a permission warning message when trying to get into other folders. I was thinking of changing the everyone permission to full control but don't really want to. I might do this because it is a home network.

It's a setting on a minority of linux access points , llike linksys ,
it will NOT be set unless someone has done it.

try having the machines ping each other , there is the whole firewall to worry about - check out tutorials on the web

try using same usernames and passwords at both ends

use the IP address instead of the name
