    Just saw this on youtube.
I'd ahve thought rape would've been a lot more violent.
Is it possible for an extremely inebriated woman to actually sleep through a rape?(like what she seems to have done)

Rape is just having sex with someone without their consent. Doesn't need to be the most violent thing in the world.

    From the Amnesty one:

ONE PERCENT?! That has to be a typo, right?!

And that's only 1% of the cases that made it to court.:mad:

    Edit: Mu mistake

Nope. It's partly due to the small number of cases that actually get to trial, so the figure can seem a bit minute (trial percentage for conviction is larger), but of the overall rapes in the country, the 1 per cent constitutes those that even make it to trial and are returned with a guilty sentence.

A rape doesn't have to be violent. And yeah, if a woman/man is drunk enough, they could sleep through a rape quite easily. It's why substances like rohypnol are so popular in rapes.

That's truly shocking and not a little depressing.....

My thoughts exactly. If it's true then it's horrendous but given the way these "reality" TV shows work and their shameless publicity stunts I'd be sceptical.

I thought of this too, but they can't be that hard up for stunts that they have to insinuate a rape, from watching the UK Big Brother if someone eats all the Rich Tea Biscuits its enough to boost ratings.

The alternative is worse, tbh.......that the crew saw it and did nothing!

    This is completely shameful.

Heaven forbid a woman can have a few drinks in the house that she's sharing with other people, get drunk and fall into bed, and believe that she is safe, while on television or not.

If a guy goes out every weekend and has sex with a different girl, it's grand for him, if a woman goes out and does it, and at some stage in her life gets raped, then she's asking for it. If she wears tight clothes, she's asking for it. If she walks home alone in a dark area, well, tough... She shouldn't have done that, should have known better, it's partly her own fault.
    BULLSH*T.
Why does there always have to be a "yes, but.."? It's sickening.

    no it's called REALITY.
there are parts of this city i would not dream of going late at night & to do so while legless would be suicidal. also known as COMMON SENSE, or as me granny would say COP-ON.

Just saw the video on youtube. The girl is fast asleep and your man is making movements around her.

I wonder were people watching this live at home or what?? Reality tv at its worst.

If she was a sister of mine i'd kill the f*ucker...

Huh, just watched it. The guy was talking to her the whole time and she starts making 'sex sounds' towards the end... She didn't seem unconscious, just not particularly energetic, nothing looked non-concensual to me...

That's... I don't think I even have words for that.... I mean, I knew things were bad, but that means 99% of people accused of rape walk free. ****ing insane.

Without outside influence except alcohol though?

Apologies, you already answered my question.
I've never been that drunk tbh.

For those who are interested, from a study in 2009, only 7 per cent of rapes reported to the Gardaí resulted in a conviction. The 1 per cent figure comes from total estimated rapes in the country, not just those that are reported.

Not sure if that would constitute linking to porn and get me a ban. Just go to youtube and type in the relevant key words.

Yeah, I know people of both genders who sleep like the dead when drunk. I know plenty of people quite capable of sleeping through anything when drunk.

Can the production company/channel be held accountable for any of this?
If they can't I could see them actually benefitting from it.

The outrage is more about the attitudes that some people have towards this event and attacks/assaults/rapes in general.

Is it any wonder that so many victims don't come forward?! If they thought they'd face that sort of reaction, why would they?!

I spare my sympathy for someone I feel is deserving of it, if you don't mind.

I better check under my bed covers for muggers next time I get home drunk so. theres a bit of a difference between walking through a rough area of a city and asleep in your own bed on a tv show.

Jesus, and people wonder why more victims don't report it. I probably should get out of this thread, it's making me far too angry!

Are there actually "men" on this thread who believe because a women gets slightly tipsy, that excuses men from forcing themselves on a women and defiling her?

All I can say is I hope I never meet you

"Slightly tipsy" is seriously misleading, to be fair.

I would NEVER even remotely excuse rape, but there is an onus on someone to have enough cop-on and self-respect not to get paralytic drunk and comatose.

This being AH, I know a few people will probably twist that into excusing, but they are separate valid issues.

Combine them and the rapist is still a sick **** and 100% in the wrong.

But getting paralytic and comatose shouldn't be condoned either.

Who do you sympathise with? Since someone having their body defiled and violated doesn't cut it for you, I'm curious to know: who is it that merits your sympathy?

This thread is actually depressing. I knew there were still some knuckle-draggers who apportion blame to the victim lurking in society, but it is shocking and really saddening to see how prevalent slut shaming is.

Just because around half a dozen people (half of whom are probably trolling) on an internet forum have that silly viewpoint doesn't mean it's a prevalent problem in society. It means there is a few idiots on the internet, stop sensationalising.

When a crime is most often committed in private and is one person's word against another I don't see how one could hope to have a high conviction rape.

One wonders about this whole case and its reporting though. If it's as bad as being made out then the crew who were present-ish and observing need a good bloody hiding.
