Cost effective USB video device to plug into a small bedroom tv?

I am looking for a standalone device, preferably cheap, that will allow one to plug flash drives into it so that they can watch .avi video etc.

A PS3 etc I know already does that but they have one already being used in another room, and it's also very much over kill!

Have you encountered anything like this?

Thing is now from what I remember about how the television looks it probably does not have a HDMI connector, she's going to check this evening.

I'm going to go with http://www.memoryc.ie/products/description/Midte_MDT_MC001_S_Mini_HDMI_Media_Player/index.html for €29.52 unless any of you can point out a reason why I should spend more? Essential missing video formats etc...

I'm actually now considering the likes of:

Asus O!Play HD2 HD Media Player - USB 3.0 & Internal 3.5" SATA Bay for Hard drive with NAS function

Patriot PCMPBO25 Box Office 1080p High Definition Media Player with optional internal 2.5" HDD expansion.

I have come to the decision it's wortk spending a bit more for the major functionality boost provided by the option to insert a 3.5" or 2.5 hdd in those models respectively.

i would go with the asus if i was you
i use asus products when upgrading mobos and stuff for my pc never have any trouble with them ,i was lucky when i bought my plasma screen it had the media player built in just plug usb or harddrive direct to the tv to play all my files ,very handy and tidy..:)

I love asus, I really do, and the HD2 looks great and I would appreciate the option of going for a 3.5" HDD over a 2.5" HDD but I'm not too sure I want to pay £100 GBP instead of £60 just for that perk!

The Asus also allows access you youtube and flicker etc, but honestly we can do that with other computers and we're just after a media player to play media we uplaod to it.

Nice machine that.

We went with the cheaper Patriot which is working out very well.

Over the coming weeks we are going to get a Patriot USB wireless adapter (just to be sure it's compatible), and a second hand internal 2.5HDD ~200GB cheap off eBay to complete the mini media centre.

Good buy.
