this is just more of a brick. Im pretty sure you mean a pretty slim one like the post above me links but this WD is very good value at £55stg (£69 for 2tb).

I have the 1TB and 2TB version, I have one plugged into my HTPC and the main reasons I like it - no on/off switch: it turns on when the pc is on, reliable, nice length power+usb and the diagnostic software works well.

technically portable but not the slip in your back pocket variety.
nb. this is not usb powered, there is a plug supplied

It was before the flooding in Thailand, which has led to a shortage of hard drives.

That's a crazy difference all right!

No idea how long it'll take hard drives to come back to normal values, production will have to get back to full capacity and then stocks built up...

Might be a time to buy of a local computer shop with very slow moving stock! SO they'd have hard drives from months back!

I'm looking for a 1TB hard drive that's nice and portable like my 500gb one currently. I'd hate to have to have a power lead coming from it.

Anyone have any recommendations meeting these criteria?
