If you were God...

Imagine you were God* and you had just created Heaven and Earth and the Mariana Trench, and all the bogholes in the midlands, and had just painted the faces on baby kittens, and you really want all this mankind stuff to go right.

What is the one human characteristic you would alter, to improve man, and make him more peaceful, benevolent and honourable?

I don't know the answer to this question; I don't have one yet. I was just thinking about it when I woke up this morning and I think AHers might have some interesting opinions.

    * Despite the question, this thread is not about God.

True remorse for their actions. Too many people do bad things and don't seem to care

I would alter mans ability & need to believe in God. To improve man, I would teach him the story of evolution. He would be more honourable if I showed him that I do not exist.

My acts of creation would be in 3 steps.

    1) Created bitches

    2) Create money

    3) Keep bitches and money!

Only took two posts for the thread to be derailed by the atheist brigade and their famed sense of humour

The ability of people to change their sex and race at will and as often as they wanted so that people could see things from the perspective of the other at first hand and hopefully there'd be far less racism, sexism and homophobia.

I'd probably make all men aware than non-belief in intelligent creators and having a sense of humour are not mutually exclusive!

Throughout the history of mankind, we have probably spent more time kowtowing to the sun or to fellow man than to what we call God. Man would find lots of other ways of creating destruction without God.

In fact, the only way I can think of which would really eradicate the cruellest of human carnage, and recapture man's innocence is to rid him of his creativity altogether.

But that's not a very satisfying solution.

Ah, but isn't greed just an extension and exaggeration of wanting what is beneficial for you?

And in this case, you want an end to crime, war, adultery etc........ so isn't it possible that greed has to exist for you to even want greed not to exist in the first place?? ........... or something?

brave new world? People have no family ties. everyone belongs to everyone. Everyone has their sexual desires satisfied either by casual sex or porn. Bit of a soulless place though in huxley's world.

    Significantly increase empathy.

If everyone could feel the physical and emotional hurt we inflict on each other, we would be a hell of a lot nicer to each other!

Assuming we have free will in the first place. Me, I'd go for intelligence: I see too many people who just can't think ahead, who can only react. They do things without understanding what they're doing, or why, or whether they should be doing those things at all. No self-awareness, no understanding of how they impact on others, no connection to past or future. This world doesn't need more people, it needs better, smarter people.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

introduce a disease that only affects people that are bad to others.

for men their cock would rot and fall off if they raped women
for women thier throat would swell up if the started to nag
for children they would lose their voices when ever they threw a temper tantrum

    1/ Abolish religion

2/ All elements would come at the right times of the year eg. winter snow/summer sun etc.

    3/ Abolish greed.

4/ Grant humans the ability to fly

5/ Grant the ability to communicate with animals

    6/ One language for all
