We've had these threads for the last few years, so I thought I'd start one for this semester ^_^ Basically you just look back on what happened so far, and then decide a few goals you want for next semester (invariably including study more ¬__¬).

Also it's been pretty quiet in here recently, so thought it'd be good to get a bit of chat back with some new threads!

    So, 11/12 semester 1...

    - Started studying history for the first time since my junior cert. I'm really loving it so far!
    - Moved into a new house. It was weird not living with my friends for the first time in three years for a while, but I really like it here :D
    - Started writing for The Print.
    - Been secretary of Mental Health soc. Awesomest society ever!
    - However, it's been pretty rough on the health side of things :( my depression and various other problems have been annoyingly present this semester so I've missed a lot of class and assignments.

Next semester I'm going to try and get a proper routine going. And get my work in on time for a change :pac:

    1st semester:
    - Started a taught MA. Didn't enjoy the modules really. But loved the language component.
    - Was fine until about four weeks ago when depression kicked me in the face and motivation took a nosedive.
    - Still managed to submit everything on time!!!
    - Really can't wait for it to be over. Learned that even if you love a thing, it can be a real pain sometimes.

    2nd semester plans/hopes:
    - Excited about next semester's modules.
    - Relieved I don't have to do a dissertation for another year.
    - Desperately need to get back on the exercise bike. Too many biscuits in my vicinity.
    - Would like to sort out a regular sleeping pattern, fed up being exhausted.

    Semester 1:
    - Really really really enjoyed life when I should have been studying.
    - Learned a lot about myself, not so much about physics.
    - Left it all on the backburner again.
    - Put a plan together, got working, getting on top of the workload.
    - Realised that, while I love physics and will always find it interesting, I don't want it to be my work.

    Semester 2:
    - Gonna make my compositions WAY more detailed, structured, complete.
    - Gonna divide my time properly - work when I work, play when I play.

I really enjoyed my time in Maynooth overall. I wasn't sure how I would get on before I came here but I've had a little bit of luck socially, not so sure about the academic side of things just yet, gonna have to wait and see how my exams determine that.

    First Semester

    - started first year BA in Psychology
    - met some really nice friends both on and off campus who let me stay on nights out/ another who lives in Leixlip I often get lifts with
    - realised Sociology is actually a pretty easy subject
    - realised English is A LOT different in university
    - started to read more
    - went to the Roost a couple of times with the gang
    - haven't really involved myself with clubs & socs much barr SVP and I've had great craic with them, met Ryan Rubridy, went on Invarsity etc
    - I didn't really study a lot but I've developed socially and personally
    - went to two boards beers

    Plans for Second Semester

    - actually going to try and start studying and properly this time
    - looking forward to next semester's modules in all my subjects
    - hopefully going out a bit more, to Zinc perharps still need to introduce my country friends to Leixlip
    - organise my time effectively

Not sure what else, just I've gotta start studying next semester thats the bottom line I'm useless at these things:pac:

    First semester:

    - English is still great.
    - Started strong this year, enjoyed all I studied, didn't really make coherent notes for everything though.
    - Writing has improved. Wrote a pretty good poem for some L and D pamphlet I've yet to see (its on mental health if you did see it).
    - Wrote a pretty good composition on the musicality of Fracing! Pretty fun that.
    - Read T.S. Eliot, Faulkner, Dostoevski, Adorno and some history, film and other stuff.
    - Essays have been 60-ish standard--that has been disappointing.
    - Picked masters.
    - Kept pretty active--I've bought a class new bike.

    Second semester:

    - Work like a dog to get essay standards up.
    - Get high 2nd or 1st in degree.
    - Organise a job for the next year.

    After its all done:

    - Diet for a while. Can't run like a used to. :(

First semester = Hell on earth. Honestly, if I can get through that, I can get through anything! I was hoping that all I'd heard about the first semester of third year being a nightmare was exaggerated. It wasn't!

Very sad to be completely finished with certain lecturers, and gutted that I may have attended my last ever carol service!

Second semester will be so much better. I know this for sure. Less intense modules, and more hours available to work on my thesis, which I am really enjoying!

    Happy Crimbo all!

Might as well post since I'm here.

    Semester 1
-Finished a piece for guitar and electronics, got it played, f***ed up the live
electronics at the gig. Since then got a new sound card.
-Wrote another one for Soprano and Clarinet, hasn't been rehearsed yet,
but should be pretty badass by next month.
-Studied Synthesis, realised that Csound is a lot more powerful than Puredata, still use Puredata for live stuff.
-Also started to use Processing for live visuals, pretty cool. Live coded for a
few gigs and it was quite stressful but fun.
-Listened to loads of new music, and am obsessed by a few new composers
    -Got OKish marks
    -Read a lot more Nietzsche

    Plans for Semester 2
-Bring my marks up & apply for PhD funding
    -Make friends with grad studies
-Write more music and finish my portfolio and my commentary on it
    -Have a lot more gigs
    -Learn Supercollider and perhaps ChucK
-Revisit ProTools and record a lot more people
-Read more Nietzsche and start on Descartes
-Get my German up to scratch
    -Sell some photos
-Hopefully travel &(Get an extra job to help with travel/bills)
