Suggestions that Gary Cahill would prefer to stay in the North West

    luis16suarez Luis Suarez
Very happy after a great win tonight. I'm proud of the team, a hug and Happy New Year to all. I hope that in 2012 all your wishes are met!!!

I think he's fairly overrated tbh and prob cost in the region of 15m plus 70k wages. Happy with what we have at the moment.

100% agree. The only reason we should buy another CB would be if we had a once off chance to sign a top class CB that was far far better than what we have starting. Other than that reason, going out and buying a centre back who is either in a similar class to some of what we have or maybe even of a lower class would just be stupid.

Chelsea agreed a 7 million fee for him

Was that confirmed? Heard it alright and put it down as tabloid bs. Seems fairly low considering what they wanted in the summer. His contract up this season is it?

Nothing official but it seems fairly certain.

In fact some reporting it was less.

Very impressed with Johnson for a while now and very good again tonight. RB is one are sorted for the long term.

Carroll is bound to break his duck soon, especially if Gerrard keep spraying crosses like that.

That Skrtel block was fecking amazing and the Gerrard goal was an example of keeping the head and as cool a finish as you'll get.

Things are looking up again on this schizo thread even without Luis and Lucas.

Skrtel and Agger = best central defence partnership

Especially considering we already have Carra & Coates there, and Kelly if needs be.

No need for a CB at all IMO

The only thing we should be looking for is a striker. We just need to convert chances, our defence is excellent.

If there was a defenders equivalent to goal of the season, Skrtel wins.

We have the best defence in the league at the moment. Carra, Coates and Kelly as subs or waiting in the wings, not too shabby. We need to spend our money on goal-scorers/creators

We're seeing the best of Glen Johnson for quite some time too.

    Super player.

Anyone have a link to somewhere I can watch the whole match from tonight? Was working and couldn't get to see it, thanks!

I can't see any big spending this January though, maybe if somebody comes up on a free or an Enrique like bargain. We definitely wont see as hectic a 31st of January anyway!

I suppose a DM to give short term cover for Lucas, Adam is suffering because of that but if Gerrard stays fit, there'll be less need for Adam to play every game, unless the idea is Adam providing for Gerrard in the AM role.

Crazy to see how much the game changed tonight when Gerrard came on. Still a brilliant player. Is he the player to get the best out of Carroll?

Hopefully. When he came on he did the job that the midfielders, wingers and forwards all should be doing. Bar Suarez the rest of them are nowhere near his class, which is majorly dissapointing.

Time will tell, but he certainly looked a different player in the last 30 than he did in the first 60.

Cahill seems unlikely unless Carragher is finished. Be a good option to cover the inevitable Agger injury

Gerrard showed everyone what they were missing. Think fans had become too accustomed to his class that they took it for granted. Would love to have some clones of him available

    Speaking of Agger....

Tonight marked Daniel Agger's first ten full games in a row in his entire #LFC career.
    WOW

Even if he is, for the money Cahill would want it would be a poor signing. Given AVB said Chelsea and Cahill were 'miles' apart in terms of personal terms, he must be looking for some thing outrageous given money in general isn't an issue at Chelsea

I really wish people would stop putting the mockers on Agger

Would make zero sense as others have said. Beyond our first two CB's we have Carra, Coates, Wilson and even Kelly if needed. One of our most promising kids who plays as a CB Wisdom will be turning 19 this year. Is probably now our strongest area in terms of depth in the squad.

Agreed. Gary Cahill is more of the same. He does some eye catching things but lacks the vital trait of positioning for a defender. He is no better than Skrtel who I am still not completely confident in to be honest, although his form lately has been excellent.

If we are to sign a centre back it should only be undoubted top quality.

The rumours are he wants 100k to move South but he'll accept a bit less to stay in the Northwest
