Wouldnt cost a whole lot, and is actually capable of putting the ball in the net. Only downside is hes 28 but he was never the type to rely on pace anyways.

Brought him up last January, last summer and last week on herewhich brought derision from one or two knobs who probably rely on the back page of tabloids for their footy knowledge.

Huntelaar brings one thing and one thing only to the table and that is the getting of goals. Would have him at the clkub in a heartbeat tbh.

Another who I like as a player, but who would be expensive, is Welliton. Very fast, very skillful, good with both feet, and very much a goal orientated player. Only 25 as well.

If I wanted to splash a few million on a potentially good young striker to act as cover to one of the above then Moestafa El Kabir would be my shout.

Look sorry but i can't agree that a player that has only managed to force his way in to playing just over 25% of Liverpool's league game-time is one of the transfers of the season. We have to be looking higher than that. If you're talking best transfer to have as a 'super sub', then yes i can agree with that, but personally i'm much more concerned about having 11 starting players that are so good so that more often than not the game will be put to bed and subs will be less of an issue. For me there are 3 positions that need looking at. Another striker, an out and out right winger, and another cb (i'm worried if either Agger or Skrtel get injured where that might leave us). I'll be very disappointed if we don't do some business in those positions over the transfer window

Just because YOU dont know anything about football on the continent doesnt mean no one else does.

You do realise there are plenty of ways to actually watch football now thats not just on Sky sports?

    ESPN? :pac:

This is one of those posts on boards that baffles me. You literally know nothing whatsoever about football on the continent. Why would Schalke let their top goalscorer go cheap? A player who has averaged a goal a game this season. He's been linked with United but the fee's in question are over double what Schalke paid so you're looking at €24m+

No need to be nasty towards Joe.

Huntelaar probably would cost around the £16m -£20m mark to buy alright, but his goalscoring rate over the last 8 or 9 years would make him less of a risk than some others imho.

Hernandez is indeed very good. He certainly offers more in terms of pace than Bent, although Bent undoubdedly offers more of an aerial threat

Not to mention he has previous form with Suarez too.

His goals to games rate when he played with Suarez is excellent.

lets raid newcastle again for ba, swap carroll back to em. imo i think ba is more suited to the way liverpool play nowadays. sometimes u just have to bite d bullit and admit u got it wrong on a player.

20 million, that's not right. At least, 25 million. Probably Shalke would want close to 35 million. This is a proven goalscorer everwhere he's gone.

    I was talking £ not €.

I think that Schlake would be very tempted by a bid in the £16 - £20m range tbh as it would see them get close to twice what they paid for the player if the bid was in the higher end of that range.

You could very well be right in that they could look for a lot more for the guy though, as he is a proven goalscorer and even though he gets flak over his time in Spain, he still managed 8 goals in the 20 games he got there. His goal scoring rate in Holland and Germany is very impressive, as is his goals to games at International level.

The only league where his stats look average is in Italy and even there a lot of his games were sub appearances.

I think that having him up front for Liverpool with Suarez buzzing around him would see a hell of a lot of goals scored.

I dont want Darren Bent for many reasons, but Hugo Rodallega could be a decent punt, every bit as good as Bent imho. Bent is the laziest bast**d ive seen on a pitch, i cant think of a lazier one.

Rodallega's contract is up in the summer as well. And of course he would come alot cheaper and almost 2 years younger than Bent.

    That's amazon.co.uk's returns policy, not Newcastle's!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

ikky i wonder if newcastle hav a 1 year returns policy;):D
bellamy has also been a great transfer for us

Ba is standing out this year in the same way Andy Carroll stood out last. They're very different players, and it could be argued that Ba would suit us more, but we can't just sign the league's non-top-four top scorer every January.

Let's buy a decent young striker or two from abroad for a reasonable fee (we need a third striker anyway IMO) and see how they and Andy Carroll get on with Gerrard returning and maybe a new winger or attacking midfielder coming in as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭ynwa_17

Why are people even mentioning Ba? Serious issues regarding his knees and on top of that, he'll be gone to the ACN

Why can't the FA just communicate? I've heard a number of times down the years and of late that by issuing bans and punishments that they are 'making a statement'.

How about they actually just make a ****ing statement, ya know, words n shit. Make a statement stating what the future punishments will be for certain actions and follow through on it, consistently.

Instead Suarez gets a one match ban for doing something he shouldn't but that many others have done without punishment and the best we can do is 'hope that they intend to be consistent from here on'.

What an utterly retarded but unsurprisingly useless way for them to carry on.

Am. Ok. Hold on a sec. Are you implying that I'm happy with the FA and their actions towards Suarez in some way? I most certainly am not. I agree 100% with your post. The FA are so inept they make our government over the past 10 years look like geniuses. Although in my post I said I would applaud them if they now consistently gave out the same punishment to everyone else it would at best be a sarcastic slow clap, for finally getting around to doing what they should have been doing all along. Treating everyone equally.

Yeah had a look at it there, he's also looking right in the direction where the lineman would be and he's walking off the pitch after obviously being on the ground(you know, that rule) which would further back up Rooney's theory.

Yeah, as I've said on numerous occasions, I'm no fan of the FA. The organisation needs an overhaul imo.

Aguerro, Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko, Adebayor, Defoe, Hernandez, Berbatov and Drogba are all better than him as out and out strikers. You could make the case too for Welbeck and Torres. Bent struggled big time at the only big club he was at and was shipped out. Good goal scoring record but don't let that mask his overwhelming mediocrity. He struggles with England which is the best side other than Spurs he's been at. Liverpool could do a LOT better than him. Especially at his age and the wages he commands, he would probably be on more than anyone at Spurs were he to go to Liverpool which would be downright shameful.

Aren't Villa traditionally a relatively ''big club''?

    My Season report so far

    Glen Johnson - 7/10

He has been very good all season. He is great going forward but his final ball an improve.
Defensively he can sometimes be dodgy but this season no one has caused him too much trouble apart from Moses

    José Enrique - 9/10

He has been immense all season nearly inpossible for a winger to get by him.His final ball could improve. His understanding with Downing has been poor though due to Downing's stupid runs.

    Daniel Agger - 8/10

He has been superb.Has shored up the defence since his return.Good understanding with Skrtel

    Luis Suárez - 9/10

He has superb all season.Nearly playing on his own up front at times with such a static midfield. But his finishing needs to improve & needs to get in the box more.Needs to control himself in regards to officials as he isn't getting as many free kicks as he should

    Steven Gerrard

Not enough playing time to give a rating. I think he will have a big 2nd half to the season.
    Andy Carroll - 4/10

no movement from him at all. Doesn't even win the many headers either. He was unlucky against City with a good header though.Price tag is weighing heavy on him. Badly needs a goal

    Maxi Rodríguez - 6/10

He drops into good positions & is intelligent & links up well with Suarez.Lacks pace though & seems to tire when he starts.good impact player to have.

    Jordan Henderson - 5/10

Started off the season like a headless Chicken on the right wing.
Has improved in CM but lacks quality.I think he will be a decent CM for us in the future but no where near World Class

    Dirk Kuyt - 4/10

Needs a goal badly.Has always lacked Quality but doesn't seem to work as hard as he did under Benitez.Another Forward player who we have who is in his 30's as well.

    Stewart Downing - 5/10

Has looked decent in some games. But when he makes a mistake he hides out on the wing.He also never links up well with any of the other players.

    Jay Spearing - 6/10

Play decent against Fulham.I think he should be used more often now without Lucas

    Lucas Leiva - 9/10

Superb for the last 3 Seasons.Brillant ball winner for us & a good passer too.

    Jamie Carragher - 4/10

Been poor for a while.A great decision too drop him.

    Pepe Reina - 6/10

He has been pretty good.He han't been that busy.Bad mistake against Fulham

    Charlie Adam - 6/10

Very inconsisent.A few very good games against Chelsea,Bolton & Man City.A few terrible games Swansea,Wigan & Blackburn

    Jonjo Shelvey -

Has been on-loan. Played well against Villa

    Martin Kelly - 6/10

Played superbly against.Great Back up to have.

    Craig Bellamy - 8/10

Played brillanty most of the time he has played this season. A pity he can't play more because of his Knee's & age

Aye, as would Kenny. He has developed quite a habit of buying over-rated english players. If ye're gonna make a decent attempt at the Europa ye need a proper striker, some one worth at least £20 million ;)
