This is my point, you don't spend large chunks of money when you already have a poor squad on players who won't be good enough for 3-5 years. I remember at the time Carroll was brought people banged on about how we needed a replacement for torres straight away and we could afford to wait for the summer yet now it seems people are more than happy to wait 3+ years.

In fairness we did buy Suarez the same week, and while it can be argued till the cows come home that he was gonna be bought anyway and he is a different player to Torres, the fact still remains that we had in fact bought another striker who was capabe of filling Torres boots. Carroll was another striker who then could be given time to develop. I will agree tho that more would have been expected of him up till now. Not for him to be a world beater but just more than he has shown. I still think he could develop into an excellent striker. I hope he is playing for us and not against us if/when he does.

Michael Owen was a top class player in his position. So was McManaman. Granted the both went to Spain, but they are examples of British players that we had from a young age that went to where they thought the grass was greener. I just think that a large % of top players regardless of nationality will be tempted if a club that has more regular sucess shows interest.

Ya you are right there I suppose. Although Macca was so long ago not sure he really counts in this modern football world we live in now. Ya your probably right that if they don't get success here they will leave eventually if they are good enough. I guess the powers that be are just hoping that they become good enough to help us to that success by building a teams of cempetitors as opposed to the dross we were being served up when Macca and Owen were in there heydays. I mean, if you look at the transfers since Henry and co bought the club I believe there is much clearer focus on transfers and the direction the club is taking than in other period in the past 20 years. Sure a player here and there may not be performing as we would like him to perform but we are moving in the right direction as a whole. I believe there is more cause for optimism now than there has been in the past 3 years since we finished 2nd under Rafa.

This pretty much sums up our attacking game.

    Christ. 8%?

If the owners do indeed like their stats this won't sit well with them. New striker is imminent :D

We're shite... no two ways about it. We can all laugh (or cry despairingly at this stage) about the 17/18 times we've hit the post or crossbar but thats all down to poor finishing. Again, we can also blame the exceptional goal keeping at Anfield and away, but again, poor finishing allows the keepers to make the stops.

100 odd million of attacking talent and we can't put it into the net. For all his huff and puff, Suarez had about 4/5 shots in the first half against Blackburn and for all the variety in attempts, not a single one was on target.

I'd happily swap our defence and attack stats to win most games 4-3!

Sometimes I wish Suarez would take a leaf out of the Jermain Defoe school of finishing, don't attempt to curl the ball, fúck off with the outside of the boot, and just belt the thing into the net.

Its frustrating to watch, and to thing of it half of them 17/18 post/crossbar hits would have seen us not drop the majority of points we have!

It could be worse though, victor mosses has 70 odd shots on goal and has scored once.

We have the joint best defense in the league. While one player shouldn't be scapegoated you can't blame our predicement on the back four.

Theres really only been two games this season where at the end of it I couldn't find any positives in the way we played. Tottenham and Swansea.

To say Liverpool are "just plain ****" is simply not true and overreaction of the highest order. To rob from Any Given Sunday, its a matter of inches that we are not in 4th spot at the moment and thats just from Adam's penalty and own goal alone, nevermind the countless worldclass saves and times we've hit the woodwork.
Our defence is now looking great, not sure what more the likes of Agger and Skrtel can be expected to do. Personally, i feel the opposite to you and am only blaming a few, namely Suarez, Downing, Adam, and arguably Henderson and Carroll. Suarez shooting is embarrassing its so bad.

Absolutely correct, the 3 of you, my bad.

Suarez banned for the Newcastle game, 1 match ban for the finger

The club have been fined £20k for failing to control players during Fulham game. Think they said Suarez also fined £20k

Not sure if this is old news or not but Suarez is out of the Newcastle game due to the incident at Fulham and was fined £20,000 acc to Sky Sports News

Will be interesting from here in to see if every player who makes such a gesture whilst on or leaving the pitch will get the same ban and fine.

Id like to see us line out like this against Newcastle without Suarez , Shelvey played most of his games for Blackpool on the right wing & was quite prolific from there. Gerrard, Spearing , Carra , Kuyt , Maxi all on the bench. Newcastles' centre half pairing isnt the biggest so i want to see lots of crosses for Carroll & hopefully he can have a big game.

    Usual back 5

    Shelvey--Henderson--Adam--Downing

    Bellamy

    Carroll

I think they will tbh. The line was drawn I reckon after Rooney getting banned for cursing at the camera at Upton Park last season. Why anyone would be offended by it is beyond me, but the precedent has now been set

As an aside, does anyone know how much the FA are allowed fine players? £40k for the likes of Suarez may be peanuts, but to other footballers it could be a significant amount. For instance, I couldn't imagine the SFA being able to fine an SPL player a similar amount

Andy Carroll destined to score now against Newcastle. Get him in to your fantasy football teams now.

I have zero problem with Suarez getting a one match ban for giving the finger as long as this becomes the norm for players. Once they inevitably don't it becomes unfair. I hope however I am proved wrong here and in fact will applaud the FA if it becomes the norm.

I hope that consistent bans/charges will be given out from now on.

I hope so too! To be fair you could google Liverpool players surrounding the referee especially Reina and make one of those images up. You could google most clubs and get lots of results, especially high profile premiership clubs... but I'm with you that there has to be more consistency with the charges dished out.

Well, it's set up very nicely for Carroll to get the winner..

Carroll is being used as a scapegoat.

He hasn't been given a consistent run of games in the team. I'd be more annoyed with players like Downing and Suarez who have been playing week in week out without scoring or assisting goals on a regular basis. Carroll hasn't started two games in a row in over two months.

I have no problem writing Carroll off when he is given a genuine chance. For example, if he was given the run of eleven games in the team that Suarez was given and only returned one goal then yes it would be time to move him on.

Downing, even though he is generally playing okay, has had a good run of games and is yet to assist or score a goal. I think Henderson is doing quite well, and Adam was doing well until his penalty miss and own goal in the last two games.

If the media and supporters continue with the abuse Carroll is getting at the minute, then I cannot really see him being a success with us. He will be driven out of the club.

Unfortunately, he will probably become a success somewhere else.

Yeah i got the photo from rawk so obv it will be bias to liverpool but i still think its justifiable. A few of the united ones their are from this season liek so im not sure why the decided to just start handing out fines now.

Consistency is key. But where talking about the FA so i doubt were gonna see much.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but former Liverpool player Damien Plessis has signed for Doncaster Rovers.

When will the English FA charge the English FA for charging and handing out xenophobic and borderline racist charges and fines to foreign players while allowing English players to escape punishment for the same offences?

Carroll's on pitch performance is the reason why Liverpool supporters discuss him. He on his own is not the reason why the club scores so few goals, but he is one of the reasons. The fact that he adds pretty much nothing else on the pitch when he is not scoring just highlights him for many. His massive transfer fee will be a reason for others to discuss him.

The manager who spent £35m on him also seems reluctant to play him, which is a bit baffling to be honest, I mean if you wanted a player so badly that you would be happy for the club to pay so much then you would surely play him and build around him right?

As for him probably being a success somewhere else. I really don't know. My own hunch is that he would be similar to how he is now at pretty much any club that is not in the North East of England as I really do think that he is that much of a homebird.

I think that if Carroll continues to play as he has done when given the chance and if Kenny continues to only kind of use him that there is no point in not trying to make back some what we spent on him and using it towards a striker that Kenny will actually play week in week out.
