    Hi,
I bought a refurb MacBook pro in early 2008,that was working fine up till last night.
However, now when I try to start it,there's a noise(cd drive,I think)then nothing. I hold down the power button for ten seconds and it shuts(!) itself down.
Has anyone else had this problem and any suggestions what might be wrong?
    Thanks.

does the power light stay on? does the power remain on only while you hold the button? it is possible it could be a graphics card failure - these units are renowned for a GPU problem. but if it powers off nearly straight away it's likely to be the cup's. Def worth dropping into an AASP for a check.

    Thanks for the reply.
The power light stays on,sometimes it flickers and goes off. I suspect you're right about the graphics card. You wouldn't know the best place on Dublin to get it checked out ?

if it's the GPU its free. otherwise it wouldn't really be worth fixing.
