Really happy with the win today, far more comfortable than I would have thought.
Again the woodwork was seen to rattle - 16 now I think - but what harm, 3 points and a clean sheet away from home- happy days.
Great to see Shelvey do okay and for Henderson to put in a good shift.
Given the amount of games in the next 3 weeks, I really expect our defence will see us climb into 4th by mid january.
That of course will be helped or hindered by whatever comes out of Tuesdays deliberations.

That shirt just doesn't look like a Liverpool shirt

Didn't mind it at all, actually quite liked it.

Shelvey was very, very good for his first game back, that flick from the corner was brilliant. Seems to enjoy the licence to attack from Blackpool.

Not a bad weekend for Liverpool. Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal all drawing. Getting very tight again in the top 7

    1 Man City----16--35--- 41
    2 Man Utd
    16--23---39
    3 Tottenham--15--13--- 34
    4 Chelsea
    16--15---32
    5 Arsenal
    16--7----29
    6 Liverpool----16---7--- 29
    7 Newcastle---16--2----27

Hopefully the gap between 1st and 7th can be narrowed so we'd get some very interesting games in the new year then

Thought Adam and Henderson in the middle did okay but never fully bossed

Have to say Delph for Villa is turning into a nice little player, looked good today for them - Shelvey looked good and always worked hard, there were a number of occasions where he was free but didn't get the ball passed to him which seemed to frustrate him quite a bit - he has still to develop a bit but he's on the right track.

Agger and Skrtel were again very solid which is great to see - hope their partnership continues to develop

I'm not sure I fully agree with the Shelvey love tbh. I thought he looked quite sluggish and lazy today.

Comparable to the much maligned Adam who is among the leaders in terms of ground covered Shelveys lack of mobility is rarely commented on or criticised

Considering it is first game back after playing with Blackpool and the reserves........

They're different type of players to me. For all his lack of mobility he was able to get into threatening positions a few times, Adam only once.

I'm a big fan of Adam but he was average today, Shelvey had a better game but that's because he'd a more eye catching role. Adam has to stay back more with Lucas out. Adam is a seasoned pro now. Shelvey isn't so he gets a bit of a pass and rightly so, Adam is held to a higher standard which is a compliment to him too.

A good few thought he'd never be good enough for Liverpool, a one season wonder and they've been proved wrong.

Missed the game today unfortunately but great to get the win and clean sheet under the belt.

15min highlights here for anyone in the same boat as myself.

I'll hold off my judgement on Shelvey but I'm not altogether convinced by him

Im not 100% convinced by shelvey, but he put in a good shift yesterday. Good ball control and some good shots on goal.

I thought Fester did well considering his first game back. I think it definitely suits Adam sitting back and spreading the ball around a-la Jan Molby

Shelvey got short-changed by Adam, could easily have got a goal had Adam released the ball.

On a number of occasions he could have been given a great opportunity to shoot only for Suarez/Adam/Downing not to square it

Could see he was visibly frustrated

People aren't supposed to be convinced by Shelvey after watching him play 1 game. Give the lad a chance, he is only 19 after all. Thought he played very well yesterday & but for a few poor decisions by others he would have been on the score-sheet. Very positive display

Jeez 19 almost forgot that .

Well if he is at this level at 19 we have a extremely great prospect on our hands .

Great shout to whoever said about the lack of final ball he got yesterday cause i can remember on a couple of occasion him being in a clear goal scoring position only requiring the ball to be squared that never came .

One thing he does need to improve on is giving a little more urgency getting back into the mix when we are defending , especially after a move breaks down .

But other than that at 19 hopefully he continues on his current path and we benefit from what could be a excellent player.

I thought Shelvey was very good yesterday.

He has all the attributes to be a top player imo. Has plenty of time on his side too which is great.

Remember, ideally he'd still be on loan and learning the ropes but for our injuries etc.

To step in and play as well as he did yesterday is a credit to him.

Just to add, I thought Henderson did really well yesterday. Himself and Adam were very good in the middle and linked up well with Shelvey.

It's fair to say that all our summer signings are improving all the time. It was always going to take a while for everyone to settle. Plenty of room for improvement of course but it's going in the right direction.

Carroll is obviously the exception but he isn't getting games. Until he gets a decent run of games, it's hard to judge the lad even half properly.

Special mention to Glen Johnson who was excellent yesterday and has been all season. He's been a revilation under Kenny tbh, the football we play now suits him and Agger particularly.

He is over with Swansea today after the club accepted a £100,000 offer

Would agree with this but while Henderson played fairly well I still don't think our midfield was great yesterday - we didn't dominate atall and up against a better midfield we would've struggled imo

Bang on about Johnson - we finally look to have a completely solid backline

Honestly didn't know much about him until about 3 months ago .

He reminds me of a young Chris Sutton

Adam was perfectly entitled to shoot that time, the goal was wide open in front of him , if he had scored no one would question his failure to lay it off to shelvey.

Nah cant agree with that .

He had free players left and right (Shelvey & Suarez) but decided to try and pass it past the CB and keeper .

Square ball = definite goal ..thats how i seen it in anyways .

His only excuse for not passing was scoring.....poor decision to shoot when he had options

But he didn't, Shelvey was in a far better position and had a far better chance of scoring. Adam saw his name in lights and went alone. He had time so there's no excuse really

Shelvey did well enough yesterday. He is 19 and yesterday was his first start in the EPL for the club.

It is to his credit that he looked as comfortable out there yesterday as the big money summer signings, and he certainly did his chances of getting more games no harm.

What I did like about his play yesterday was the way he was able to read how Suarez plays to a fair degree and vice versa for the most part.

I think with a more solid CM partnership in the centre than what we had yesterday playing behind him he could be a very effective player. The one big flaw in his game is his lack of tracking back and as a result I would not use him in a traditional CM position.

Was very impressed with the centre of defense as well. My old "favourite" Skrtel has really done well over the last few games, and having Carragher out seems to have worked marvels for Skrtel's game and for the general cohesiveness of the back four.

We've only conceded 7 goals on the road which is quite amazing considering 4 of those were at Spurs.

Incredible. I have to say ive previously had doubts over Skrtel Agger, but theyre becoming some pairing!

Not sure how happy Carragher will be to sit on the bench and come on for 10 minutes as an extra body in midfield, though... At least he knows that Dalglish is the one man he can't throw his toys out of the pram with.
