The alternatives are the likes of Torres and Llorente..then the likes of Pedro who is a starter for Barca but has only 15 caps for Spain. Coupled with the likes of Moreno and Bojan in the underage squads as backup, I dont think Villa missing will make a difference to Ireland's chances.

OT but you'd have to say it could make a massive difference. Villa is their main man when it comes to goals and has been for many years.

I'd gladly have our CBs up against Torres, who is terrible at the moment.

Llorente is a very good player, but I'd like to think Dunne could cope with his physical presence.

Soldado is a very good player and could hurt us, Negredo is good too but they're not as proven at international level, and i'd imagine would not have the same kind of understanding with Iniesta, Xavi etc...

It's true they have options and great backup but the loss of Villa will hurt them surely

Why anybody would want to see a video of somebody breaking their leg baffles me.

Any truth in the rumour that Suarez was to blame for David Villa breaking his leg this morning?

Chelsea would be mad to sell them and leave themselves with just 1 striker from Mid Jan to Mid Feb.

Well done to Brian Reade for donating a kidney to his son Link

Fair play to Brian. Hope all works out well.

As unlikely as they are to sell him, they're even more unlikely to do it in January. Unless, of course, they do a deal with Atletico for Falcao, who AVB knows well, or sign Neymar in the same window.

And even more unlikely that will happen as i doubt they will sell falcao 6 months after paying €40 million for him.

I think he refused to sign owen because he knew he was finished, which proved correct.

Whoa whoa whoa, when are you talking about? Just before he signed for Utd? Even if Rafa had the option of signing him for a free, which we don't even know he did, then his decision to not sign him was proven to be one of his best decisions! How you can put that solely down to a grudge is beyond me! Absurd.

You have both missed the point entirely. Whether or not Owen was worth taking on a free (which he probably was in fairness since Utd got some value with not huge risk by signing a 2-year deal) is not the issue.

The point is whether or not the fact Owen decided to string along the club for an entire summer and then announced he was leaving not long at all after Rafa joined the club.

You'd have to be some sort of saint not to have been thinking "well you can rot now son" when Owen eventually became a free agent and there was speculation of him joining various clubs.

The exact same point is true for Torres, very hard to believe Kenny (especially considering his love for the club) would not have felt in anyway slighted by the fact Torres wanted to move so soon after he took over (regardless of the previous broken promises by owners).

I don't know what Kenny is thinking right now but I sincerely doubt he has quite the same respect, fondness whatever, that he had for Torres when he first arrived.
I'm sorry i thought we where talking about Kenny not Rafa.

Lateral thinking mate - you can do it.

If AVB wants him, I could imagine Torres being a very desirable makeweight in a deal. It would suit all parties.

    Still couldnt see it happening.

Fan favorite or not i dont their they would be willing to part ex a striker with 12 goals in 9 games for a striker with 3 goals in 25 games.

No. The point is that you said that Rafa definitely had a grudge against Owen leading to us not signing him on a free. I have said we don't know that is true at all. You have gone on to say no your missing the point and then explain why you or someone else would hold a grudge against him but have zero proof that Rafa did or that it had anything to do with us not singing Owen. Just because you think there is reason to hold a grudge does not prove anything. You are missing the point.

    Carroll's £150,000 Loyalty Bonus

So Andy is getting a £150,000 loyalty bonus next month.
Andy Carroll will pick up a staggering £150,000 loyalty bonus from Liverpool next month despite making only 13 starts since his £35million move from Newcastle.
Carroll negotiated the windfall, which will be paid in each year of his contract at Anfield, when he signed last January.
The 22-year-old striker, who has scored only four times for his new club, has a deal worth £60,000 a week basic but he is also paid an additional £10,000 for his image rights and a further £5,000 for each appearance.

How about for a fan-favourite previously world-class striker with a point to prove, a European Championship to get picked for and who still shows flashes of brilliance, plus £20m?

Well true that would be tempting. I would take it if i was being honest if i was the manager but it could be because i have a soft spot for torres and believe he just didnt fit into the way chelsea played!

I genuinely think he'll go back to Atletico. It's just a question of when. If he's available as reports have suggested, I'd say it's a strong possibility next year.

As for him returning to Liverpool, I'd love to see it; but £20m is too much of a risk and for various other reasons, none of which require motorbike analogies to explain, it's very unlikely to happen.

For some reason I thought that Reina said he wanted to finish his career at Villarreal, but Atletico makes sense too given that his father played for them.
