Torres's wages would be massive that needs to be taken into account as well.

Look at the fee and wages objectively (£20m looks amazing when he was only sold for £50m last year) and it is a huge risk for a player who looks past it. I know he's only 27, but what did Michael Owen, for example, from aged 27 onwards? Was he a £20m player?

You can all talk about his heart not being in it at Chelsea and a lack of confidence and maybe that's true and a reason he's not firing.

But what cannot be denied is that he has lost a yard of pace. He does not have that flash of acceleration that was a MASSIVE part of his game. Michael Owen lost it too. He still remained a top finisher and a very useful player.

But a £20m player deserving of huge huge wages? I don't think so.

I don't know I'd be excited to have him back but if we spent £20m + c.£150,000 a week contract over 4 years we would be looking at nearly £50m for a player who imo is unarguably on the wane and very injury prone.

Surely this money could be better spent elsewhere?

Recently i'm hearing rumours of a bid for Darren Bent in the New Year.

Is that is the level of our ambition at the moment?

I would take Torres back in a heartbeat. Torres or Darren Bent? No Contest.

I think the injury prone point is a massive one too tbh.

Heart says yes, head says no. Outside of Suarez we're badly short of striking options. If we don't resolve our goalscoring issues we will be fighting with Newcastle for a UEFA place. I don't think Torres could lift his game quickly enough and be integrated into the team quickly enough to contribute the goals we need.

Would rather have Bent all day long.

No contest several years back but now not so much.

I don't know, if Torres could get back the form he had prior to the World Cup then yes. But Bent is a finisher in the John Aldridge mode, does sod all else bar stick it in the goal and to be honest we need that badly.

If we could guarantee Torres was over his confidence, injury problems then yep Torres every time, otherwise it has to be Bent (at that price)

I dunno why we're discussing this :pac:

    Is Torres fit?
    Is Torres happy at Chelsea?
    Would Chelsea sell him back?
Would Torres want to come back?
Could Liverpool raise the money and do a deal?
Where would a deal leave Carroll?

You'd know what you'd be getting with Darren Bent. A consistent finisher who knows where the back of the net is (i.e. what we need at the moment), nowhere near as injury prone as Torres. Still seems to be in his prime at Villa (scoring 1 in 2 more or less).

Torres, I don't know. I just think it's a risk. He could go some way to rediscover his Anfield form he will definitely not be as good as he was 3/4 seasons ago, but he could continue his Chelsea form and that would be a massive waste of money.

If we imagine the transfer fees would be roughly the same, with Torres commanding roughly £70-80,000 a week more in wages, then I'm really not sure if Torres is worth £15m more then Bent over 4 years

Looks like both players could be on the move in Jan..........
    @GuillemBalague Guillem Balague
Villa is not leaving FCB in January. Torres? Would you sell a motobike you just bought for 50m for half the price? Of course not! Not 4 sale

    A broken one it seems...........

Typical male answer. So if the bike was broke you wouldn't repair it, you would sell it at a loss. U not very good business men, are u? :-)

If Ballague is saying both not for sale, it is likely they are both for sale..

This is the same guy that deletes entries from his blog when he is proved to have been incorrect about some rumour or other, just so he looks like he is ITK

He was right about Torres last January, in fairness.

Yeah he almost caught us out last year when he said Torres handed in a transfer request and was going to Chelsea.

If I remember correctly he came out last January and said that he was certain that Torres was going to Chelsea, but would not be surprised if he stayed at Liverpool either.

Ballbag has a track record of pretty much giving two options and then if one turns out to be right he goes on to claim he called it in advance. He seems to be pretty good at editing his site after events as well.

Well he was right when he said he wasn't going to London in a Helicopter or by jet pack.;)

Bent is a quality finisher no doubt. Just wonder why he never made the move to a "big" club.
No way on Torres back, even if he wanted to come, which I doubt

    1. He left us in the lurch on the last day of transfer window. would Kenny want him back ?
    2. He seems to have lost whatever made him a great player. Cant even get into the Chelsea team now

Was Comolli involved in bringing Bent to Spurs or was that before his time there?

Apparently he refused when Torres wanted to withdraw his transfer request. If you believe the rumors.:pac:

If I believe the rumours, Gerrard's career is over due to catching something from the wife's sister. :p

I hope the Kenny one is true though.

Dead right too by leaving the deal go through he got in good with the owners and ensured if he goes asking for transfer funds they would be more inclined to say yes.

If its true then it was a nicer bit of business than previously thought , imagine if he stayed on and played similar to the way hes played at chelesea .
