    Rumours,eh :)

Yep rumours.:D But they have been very accurate this time with regards to his current medical issues in terms if timescales.

The club came out when he was first injured and said he would be back in three games. The local rumours said he would be lucky to be back by Xmas if at all during 2011.

The club came out again at the start of November and said the rumours were wrong and that the player would be back sooner rather than later. The same source of the rumours said that there was no chance the player would be back at any point in November.

December started with another club statement saying yet again that Gerrard was doing very well and would again be back sooner rather than later. Ten days have passed since that statement.

For one reason or another there seems to be some major playing down of his condition/infection/blood issue. For me him being out so long and with no guarantee of him returning and staying fit for the rest of the season, coupled with Lucas being out for the season makes it very important to sign genuine quality for our midfield rather than getting a stop gap player in during the January window.

Surely they must have had some idea about Gerrards injuries!? I know I probably shouldn't bring it up but wasn't Gerrard the reason Aquilani was shipped out or so Comolli said!

Looks pretty stupid now, then again it was stupid when he was loaned out too.

Slightly OT but it looks like we may have dodged a bit of a bullet by giving Dalglish the full time job rather than Villa Boas (assuming AVB would have taken it). He seems to be developing into thier version of Hodgson; surreal press conferences, divided dressing room, below par results and unfathomable tactics. I think our players may have been more suited to his style of play than Chelsea's - our defenders are quicker so better able to play a high line for example - but he seems a bit bewildered by the press scrutiny at the top of the EPL and I think it all may have come a little bit early for him.

Anyhoo there was a bit of waffle in one of teh English papers this morning saying that LFC could do worse than look for Thiery Henry on a short term loan during the US soccer close season. Argument was he is a natural finisher who would fix our short term problems without threatening the long term development of Carrol. He's a great positive influence to have around and could be useful on the training pitch and has a long term affection for Liverpool, he's certainly talked up the Anfield atmosphere a few times. A real gent as well. Doubt it would happen but would be a very astute signing if it did - like Larson for Utd a few years back.

A sneaky bid for Tevez in January and all our scoring problems will go away....IMO

A bit early to say that about AVB don't you think?

They win tonight and they are back in Champions league places.
They also finished top of their Champions League group.

AVB won more in his 1 year at Porto than the Hodge did in his long long long illustrious career.

Comparing the two is an unjustified insult to AVB in my opinion.

Calm down petal. Look what my post was responding to. We were discussing big signings. Kenny's smaller signings have been quality for the most part. Happy now?

    Not really, pumpkin.

Firstly, Enrique is a big signing. Considering the problems we have had at left-back, he's a massive signing, regardless of what we paid for him.

I know you're talking about big as in expensive, but my point is for every expensive player we've signed who could be considered disappointing (not that I'm disappointed with Henderson by the way - the jury will be out for a while) there's a relatively inexpensive player who's been a great success. You could argue that that's even more reason for the owners to ask Kenny and Damien to spend low, but I'd say they'd be happy to continue backing them fully considering the full range of players they've bought, especially with the loss of Lucas and Gerrard's recurring injured status.

One of the reasons I wanted RH out of Liverpool was because he clearly wasn't right for the job. His press conferences were a joke, his tactics were inept and the performances were dire with no obvious sign of improvement despite the occasional good result.

With AVB his tactics clearly don't suit the players he has but he is refusing to alter them. He has had some great results - especially in the CL - but the team performances as a whole aren't great and are showing no real signs of progress. His press conferences verge on paranoid and his off field actions are weird (he has banned everyone except the first team from Cobham, for example). I think he has a huge amount of potential as a coach but I think he has been given the Chelsea job a little early. If they leave him in place and he adapts to the pressure he will do very well I think. But IMO another year or two at a slightly lower level would have been beneficial and personally I'm glad he's undergoing that learning curve at a club other than Liverpool - I think we will get where we want to be faster under KD than we would under AVB as it stands although in 2 - 3 years with Dalglish older and AVB wiser I would expect things to be the other way round.

I don't think AVB has been clueless at press conferences. Stirring things up a little, yes, but in general he says all the right things. Hodgson was different, he kind of said all the wrong things.

This was always going to be a transitional period for Chelsea and i think everyone accepts that. He has done some good things at the club, he's using Mata and Romeu very well and He's brought Sturridge through.

His players have to be given time to adopt to his philosophies and he needs to bring a couple more of his own players to implement his high line policy successfully. You need midfield players that are quick and are able to press, as well as fast defenders. The likes of Mikel and Lampard don't fit that system well and of course he has been lumbered with a bring problem in Torres also.

Sounds coming out of Chelsea are that he will be given plenty of time, and I think he will be a success.

With regards Henry to Liverpool, I suppose anything could happen in football but my gut feeling is that Henry is too loyal to Arsenal to play for another top PL club.

They just put up a statue of Henry in Highbury, I cant see him coming back to a different EPL club after that.

And I definitely dont think that AVB will have been bewildered by the level of scrutiny by any means, he has been at Chelsea before and will have witnessed what goes on first hand.

True enough the high defensive line didnt work all that well with the players in the system, but that is hardly a stick to beat him with. Against Valencia they looked quite good and although they conceded a lot of possession, never allowed Valencia to do anything with it. Soldado has been on great for the past few weeks and didnt get a sniff.

Very early to be judging AVB, it appears he is going to be given time, this coupled with a budget to continue introducing new faces to the squad that will suit his plans and style of play, and I can see Chelsea becoming a force to be reckoned with. Exciting times really.

Its clear we are a selling club if it makes business sense , ie price is right,
Worries me when January comes around, Made no football sense to sell Meiriles, But business wise made a whole lot of sense,

So if Man City or Chelsea bid 50 million for Suarez , and he is offered crazy wages to join them, And wants to go, He will go,
I think Suarez is worth wages of two players at Liverpool,

I think that any club would sell a player who wanted out if they were offered huge money for him.

I thought I saw a training picture on Friday which showed Gerrard jogging. I know that often doesn't mean much but at the very least he is not at home watching Day Time TV.

I would hate not to see him have one last crack at something big before he calls it quits, still my favourite player by a country mile.

I think he has a point.

Xenphobia in the English media (and English society in general) is totally out of control & if it's not copped onto rather fast, it could well become an issue that players take into consideration when making a move to England.

Cavanni to Suarez, "so what's it like playing in England buddy?"

Suarez to Cavanni, "it's ok, apart from the fact I get booed at every ground I play in & get abuse thrown at me constantly from the crowd for being a dirty foreign cheat. All sections of the media seemingly like to brand me a cheat & run inflammatory stories about me too, its weird, but you get used to it I guess!"

Cavanni to Suarez, "jaysus, that's a bit rough, but you don't dive? granted you make a meal of fouls & draw plenty of em, but I've seen Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard etc all do the same?! Does the media & crowds abuse them too?"

Suarez to Cavanni, "nah, tis only us foreigners. And the more foreign you are, the worse it is".

Cavanni to agent, "yea, maybe try to get a move to Spain instead, nice one!"

I agree with you to an extent, however I think its far too easy to claim xenophobia is the reason for the abuse he has received without a solid basis for that belief. Far too many foreign players have managed to avoid this through out long careers in England for it to be a reasonable assumption. I think there is of course an element to it, but I think the primary reasons for his abuse are that he's at a big club, he's a fantastic player, and he's controversial. Similar in ways to Eric Cantona
