Best thing for Suarez is to get out of Anfield, in my opinion.

I just wish he has finished his career at Everton, then I could have had the perfect disliking of him. :D

Was saying it a few match threads recently, think Fulham one and the Chelsea one.

He calls it as it is and cuts out the bull**** the likes of Redknapp have been harrowing our ears with for a while. Also he adds a bit of wit, his comment about David Luiz being controlled by a ten year old in the crowd with a playstation controller springs to mind :D

But like you said, it deeply annoys me that I'm starting to like him.

Don't usually have any time for Warnock but he is talking complete sense here. You know if the FA don't get a handle on the Xenophobic side of English football and that includes the press then you will eventually see the top players turn their backs on the premiership.

    Jesus H Christ.

Are we just going to ignore posts as deluded as this?

I cannot take him seriously at all. Everytime he comes on, regardless of whther or not his is talking sense, I see that face and the 25 year struggle to grow a bit of bum fluff above his top lip.:D

I think he has a point.

Xenphobia in the English media (and English society in general) is totally out of control & if it's not copped onto rather fast, it could well become an issue that players take into consideration when making a move to England.

Cavanni to Suarez, "so what's it like playing in England buddy?"

Suarez to Cavanni, "it's ok, apart from the fact I get booed at every ground I play in & get abuse thrown at me constantly from the crowd for being a dirty foreign cheat. All sections of the media seemingly like to brand me a cheat & run inflammatory stories about me too, its weird, but you get used to it I guess!"

Cavanni to Suarez, "jaysus, that's a bit rough, but you don't dive? granted you make a meal of fouls & draw plenty of em, but I've seen Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard etc all do the same?! Does the media & crowds abuse them too?"

Suarez to Cavanni, "nah, tis only us foreigners. And the more foreign you are, the worse it is".

Cavanni to agent, "yea, maybe try to get a move to Spain instead, nice one!"

Cavani does not sound like Keith Duffy, and Suarez does not say "Tis" :p

Other than that I think there would be more than a grain of truth in what would be said about the game/media in England by some players.

    Foreigness Stakes

    Essien > Evra
    Suarez > Modric
    Larrson > Doyle

    etc etc etc.

All the above players are foreign to England. Some more so than others.

Adam has impressed recently and Henderson is also showing more promise through the centre than on the right. Carroll is the only worry.

Adam was signed for seven million. That's not a big signing. Henderson and Downing haven't come near to justifying the prices we paid for them. The only big signing that's been a hit so far under Kenny is Suarez. That may change in the future, but those are the facts as things stand.

Henderson in the last few weeks when played in the middle has shown exactly the reason he was bought, he will be a seriously good player with some more experience and a bit more development.

    Agree totally.

Also, I think it's time that people recognised that £17m for a player (particularly a very young one) isn't even really "big" money anymore.

I think a lot of what irked people over some of the fees the club spent this summer was how more established players in similar positions went for far less money.

But that is no knock on the players that we got for the fees we spent, as the players don't make their transfer prices.

Henderson might come good yet, and he has shown a lot of improvement on the pitch over the past three weeks compared to how his play was in general for the first few months. But if the aim of spending big was to get players who would have an immediate effect in terms of making the club more competive for a CL slot, then I don't think that the club has gotten great value for money on what it spent since last January.

Of course there is the long term potential with regards to many of the signings which has to be looked at as well.

I do think that the two players that were expected to hit the ground running to a large degree were Downing and Carroll, much moreso that Henderson.

I still feel that Downing has been very unlucky so far this season as he has created a lot of good chances and hit the woodwork three or four times, however we are now in mid December and our £20m experienced winger has no goals and no assists to his name. Personally if someone had said that to me back in August I would have laughed at them.

Carroll for me has been a big let down so far as well. I thought that come August/September he would be fully fit and looking sharp. I also thought he would be a serious goal threat this season, so much so that I said in the superthread at the start of the season that I thought that a fit and up for it Carroll would outscore Suarez this season. He has shown signs in some games, the Everton game being one that stands out for me, but I think he has only had one game since last January that he looked totally up for it and that was the 3-0 win over City last season. His fitness, sharpness, and determination all seem a shadow of how they looked in that game which is baffling seeing as he has had a full preseason since then. For me it adds further credence to it being a mental issue due to not settling.

Got a text from a friend who say's there is a rumour doing the rounds that Steven Gerrards career could be finished due to medical reasons. Could be total ****e but anyone know the latest on Steven and why he's still out?

It's not bollocks at all I'm afraid.

Of course teams always hate players who play for their biggest rivals, however, that's not we're discussing.

We're talking about why every commentator feels the need to have a go at Suarez for "going down easy", even when he doesn't.

We're talking about when Oliver Holt explodes with outrage on Twitter when Larrson dives, but not make any comment when later that day Phil Jones does one?

Why does the same journalist hate Nani because of his theatrics, but love Steven Gerrard?

Why was Suarez villified as a disgusting cheat for his handball in the world cup, yet Phil Neville is celebrated as a good "die hard" English defender for the same offense?

Why is Suarez being punished for his finger gesture when the FA didn't take action against the likes of Rooney, Beckham & Cole for the same offense?

    ================

    On your list of players;

Rooney-English. Media love him. Commentators love him. Rival fans hate him. Most fans are relatively indifferent to him.
Beckham-English. Media love him (except for the world cup incident). Commentators love him. FA loves him. Rival fans hate him. Most fans are relatively indifferent to him & have respect for him.
A Cole-Media like him. Although his actions with Arsenal & Cheryl Cole have resulted in a fairly low opinion of him held in general. Still doesn't get the abuse that the likes of Suarez gets.
Terry-Media love him (even though they shouldn't), commentators love him, FA seemingly love him, doesn't get the abuse Suarez gets, despite a multitude of appalling behaviour.
G Neville-Rival fans hate him. Everyone else loves him.
Gerrard-Rival fans hate him. Everyone else loves him.

That is pretty much what I posted here some months ago. That rumour is doing the rounds in Liverpool since October. What is being said is that he will be extremely injury prone at best even if he does come back.

Thankfully what is being rumoured about his injury is something that suggests he would still have a totally normal life for the rest of his life, and that just being a full time pro player is what would be difficult/ a potential no no.

WRT Henderson, ~£16m-£20m is what you pay for young, somewhat experienced, potentially brilliant English talent. It isn't what you pay for already world-class players who'll fit right in to any side and improve it. Not any more.

By the way, why are you ignoring the good work we've done in signing excellent but relatively inexpensive players like Adam? You didn't mention Enrique either, presumably he's not on your radar because you don't have unreasonably high expectations based on his price? Why are you only looking at the 'big' signings?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 9,705 Mod ✭✭✭✭mayordenis

Basically if Enrique and Adam had of been failures certain people would be saying that 6 and 7 million respectively was a huge waste,
Since they are working out delightfully well people are saying they can't be classed as big money successes.
The face is under Rafa the likes of Kromkamp, Josemi, Gonzalez who were all sub 3 millionish were always brough up as huge failures and massive wastes of money. It's all spin and agenda in this argument.

Calm down petal. Look what my post was responding to. We were discussing big signings. Kenny's smaller signings have been quality for the most part. Happy now?
