Out of all the years I have been watching the league I can't remember a season were the quality of goal keeping against us has been better.

In some games it has been us against keeper .
Games that spring to mind was against Vorm , de Gea , Hart ,Fulham and yesterday against QPR.

There have been some WC saves pulled off against us .
That along with the amount of times we have hit the woodwork pans out to be a pretty unlucky return in goals seen to date .

I still think someone is gonna be on the receiving end of a hiding from us when our luck changes .

Didn't we have a goal keeping coach you used to tell Torres how opposition goalkeepers played, positioning etc? If memory serves he was let go when Roy came. May have been the same person who Reina was upset to see go.

Torres game suffered as a consequence and since then our goal scoring has been poor.

Gaston Ramirez the 21 year old Uruguayan attacking midfielder at Bologna has been linked with us quite a bit over the last few weeks.

Have only seen him play 3 or 4 times to be honest, but he has been quite impressive but its not enough times to make a sound judgement.

Centre forward is a problem area, thats quite clear now. Rather than a stop gap we need someone to come in a score us goals for the long term really.

I'm not so sure Llorente is an option unless we get champions league football, but for some reason I reckon Cavani could be a realistic target if we pursue him aggressively. His fellow countrymen already at the club could also be a factor.

Carroll has flopped badly yes, but it may be a case the club are not interested in selling Carroll. He may end up being a squad player, he will not demand top wages and he will satisfy the home grown rule requirement for many years to come.

He's rumoured to be on £90k/wk. That's the equivalent of what the top players at Spurs are on

What makes you think he would be more easily persuaded??
One of the most sought after players around at the moment, wouldn't come cheap either, don't Napoli have a ridiculous buy-out clause,in around the 50m mark if I remember correctly.

Bologna are decent up front alright. Watching them play Milan at the moment. I really like Di Vaio as a player, its a shame he's now 35 though!. Suarez and Coates would know if Ramirez could cut it in the Premier League i suppose.

    Dear Santa,

With the upmost sincerity I think you should get your hearing tested .

Remember last year when you asked what I would like for Christmas and I proceeded to tell you a goal machine of a striker ,strong, tall , two footed .
Well I think you heard me incorrectly ... I said Cavani not Carroll !

I even gave you a description .. Long haired , 6ft odd and playing for Napoli , but again you must have misheard and went to Newcastle.

Now the player you gave us has potential but I really would like the finished article .

So fat belly any chance of a swap this Christmas .?

    Yours gratefully .
    M.

(p's) remind him his Uruguayan mates Suarez & Coates play for us if he has any doubts .

people turning their nose up at Darren Bent?

a proven poacher, and 20-goal a season striker?

i'd take him in a heartbeat. he'd thrive in the way we're playing.

Id like a Darren Bent style player, ie, an out and out finisher. But really, in my opinion, if theres a lazier basta*d in the league ive not seen him yet. He hides. And when things arent going well in a game you do not want this fella in your team imho. He doesnt even make an attempt to look for the ball, was it 24 touches of the ball in 90 mins v United?, its not that he was isolated i have a problem with but his demeanour, and it happens alot.

And one other thing on him, he cannot handle any competition for his place, once there is he tends to sulk like a baby. Savagely over rated imo, but a player of his mould would be ideal.

I don't think he is over rated at all Daithijjj. His goalscoring record can't be argued with.

There are several on here who could argue it (and anything else).

I realise i will probably be in a minority but thats how i feel about him anyway. I wouldnt want to be beside him in the trenches during a battle. If i wanted a player to come in i would want them to be selfless in general play as well as 'selfish' in front of goal. With Bent there is nothing selfless about him that i see.

Id rather have a player with a winning attitude, i dont see that in him either.

Ferguson would never sell him to Liverpool but I reckon Berbatov would be a great shout.

I disagree. Berbatov isn't clinical enough imo.

Exactly, what LFC need is a poacher, ye need yere own hernandez. If ye had that ye would be fighting for 3rd at the moment imo.

This is overstating things considerably. He hasn't flopped badly, he hasn't flopped. 19 appearances, 4 goals - not setting the world alight - not a great number of appearances, some of those from the bench I presume, tentatively returning after an injury for the first few games, could easily have had a couple more goals on that tally.

It remains to me seen imo, it's silly already that he has flopped badly.
Selling him anytime would be ridiculous.

Maybe we should shell out £40m on someone else who is having a good season and then sell them if they have a slow start.

Or how about selling out £40m on player who has actually shown consistant ability? Crazy idea, I know.

So because he scored 5 goals in 37 appearances 5 years ago when he was 19 we shouldn't spend money on him now despite him having scored 60 goals in 115 appearances since then?

Given the chance, Carroll could turn into a Rush style player. While I dont forsee him breaking Rush's records, he could have the impact needed.

If there were signs of that in training, surely the Manager would be giving him more of a chance then he has been?
