    Hello,

I would like some information on tapestry frames. I plan on buying a tapestry kit that will produce a 9.75 x 7.75 tapestry. What size frame should I be buying?

    Is a 9" x 12" frame suitable?

Thanks looksee, why would that be? Is that size too small? Would a larger size be too big? No clue what I'm doing here but would my wife would like a tapestry kit and apparently the kit I'm getting doesn't come with a frame so I'd like to get her one. Thanks.

the size of the tapestry is quite small so it would be difficult to make it fit the larger (usually 12 x 18) size. How ever if you buy the smaller size more than likely in six months shell need the bigger one. With the smaller one she'll never be able to work on a piece large than 12 "

My recomendation is buy the larger one and a larger size tapestry

The tapestry frame needs to be slightly smaller than the tapestry canvas you're working on (at least on 2 sides) so that it can firmly grip the canvas. If you get a roller frame, you just need the width of the frame to be narrower than the canvas, as the length can roll up as you're working.
If you're having difficulty getting a frame small enough, you can temporarily sew the canvas onto a bit of fabric (e.g. an old pillowcase) and attach that to the frame.

But I agree with snowey07 that a bigger frame will eventually be needed for working on bigger tapestries.
