Is it possible to install a new multi touch track pad onto an older mac (early 08 macbook) ?

If it already has a multitouch trackpad and it's broken, then yes.

But you are trying to add multitouch to an earlier model, then no. It's not just the trackpad. There’s a controller chip as well. And even if you could install it, the system probably wouldn’t recognise it.

It should still have some multitouch capabilities: two finger scrolling etc. But if you really want full multitouch and use you Mac at a desk most of the time, the Magic Trackpad should work with it.
