Point is we're looking decidedly lacking in midfield after a preseason embarrassment of riches in that area. However, I don't accept the opinions about Gerrard likely being out for huge chunks of the rest of the season. Surely our medical team would've advised Kenny to hang on to one of Aqua or Meireles given that Stevie is crocked. He'll surely be back before Xmas.

Well he did come back, they had no way of knowing the injury would flare up again. The Guardian had him down for December on their match thread for Chelsea. Haven't seen any pictures if him even training which is worrying.

Its like Barca when they brought Ibrahimovic...

I like Carroll, he can't help his transfer fee, but i wouldn't be surprised if he did end up elsewhere, and at a more direct side he'll score 20+ a season
Fair comparison. We need Andy to at least score a few goals to save us from losing our shirt on him. Ibrahimovic was always gonna retain his value after so long as a top class player. Carroll was only really had 1 good season.

To my shock on the next day, I saw this same person training on our training ground. And now, he is regard as one of the best holding midfielder in the world. Now, it's time for me to ask for his autograph instead."

Stevie you legend. Shame these lads won't be playing together this season.

Not sure I'd be a fan of him coming back. If it was a free and some kind of pay as you play deal then maybe but otherwise no thanks.
Anelka will get you goals though. What if Suarez gets a Lucas-type injury - who would you prefer to plug the gap, Big Andy or Anelka? To be honest, I'd even rather have Michael Owen than Carroll as back-up.

Re Anelka coming in, i think he would do a job for us. We also have to remember that Suarez may or may not be facing a ban re the Evra case, so we certainly need another striker in Jan.

Only question is would Chelsea let him come to us?

Anelka has something like 4 goals in his last 32 appearances(2 of the v Copenhagen) so I'm not sure what sort of a goal threat he'd be at Liverpool. I suppose plenty of those games were on the wing for Chelsea though.

If you want to look at it in terms of stats, he has 2 assists and a goal in the league this season over 9 appearances. Not the most impressive.

But look at Drogba. He has 2 goals and 1 assist in 10 games. Not much better. Drogba has more starts than Anelka as well, to my knowledge anyway, and as you said, Anelka mostly plays on the wing.

My point is, he's not a bad striker. He's not even the worst senior striker at Chelsea; in fact the argument could be made that he's their 2nd best this season, after Sturridge.

As I've said already though I doubt he'll come to Liverpool, for multiple reasons. A striker of his experience and calibre would be great to have for the rest of the season, though, at least. He won't be off on international duty anytime soon, either.

With the squad they have I wouldn't read too much into that. I reckon the squad to face United will mostly be second string. Could be the same against Liverpool depending on how the first leg goes.

Agreed, Anelka still has something to offer and could well do a good job for Liverpool. However as you say, it's a move that's unlikely to materialise for all sorts of reasons.

If true, I hope he does really well there. I'm glad to see him back in the game, and not at an English club either.

They have huge money these days right ? Interesting to see how he gets on if they back him in the transfer market.

    Richard Buxton

Rafael Benitez set for an overdue return to management with PSG. Lucrative budget at his disposal will answer some long-standing questions.

Looks like it could be happening.

So Rafa with Leonardo as director of football? Wonder how they'll get on :P

With that budget he will be a massive success .

Yes he makes mistakes (like em all) but he has probably brought some of the best talent to the EPL whilst working under the worst owners to grace the EPL.

If true I wish him all the best , that is unless we pull PSG in next years CL ;)

I wonder would he take Torres to PSG? Might be the get out he needs from the prem, would give him 6 months to find hes form before the euros!

Hope he doesnt come sniffing around Reina!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,006 ✭✭✭donfers

hmmmm he might take the likes of skrtel and kuyt off us which would be ok if the money was right

however i'd be more worried about big bids for lucas and reina in summer time, he loves both of those players and if we don't make CL they may consider it

another thread asks "where now for Nando" well PSG may be the answer, the speculation will go into overdrive now so wait for all the papers to speculate on all of the above

Torres would never do it. He doesn't like big bad Rafa.

    Rosco told me.

    Oh. Wait. From last week;

Make or break for Rafa's reputation and a very risky move. With ludicrous amounts of money comes ludicrous expectations and these billionaire owners aren't known for their patience. Another poor start like he had at Inter and he'll be out of Paris as fast as he was out the door in Italy.

He doesn't even need that much money. He scalped half of Europe on a lousy 15m a year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

I can really see him being a success there tbh. Plenty of money and he will have them challenging for the league and competitive across Europe. Could be a really good move for him.

    Wish him all the best.

He'll do brilliant there. One of the worlds best managers with a club going places.

Seems like it ain't happening. paul_tomkinsPaul Tomkins
