All that's a bit ****ing rich from Carra, fairly sure he was critical of the signing of Lucas in his book saying we had English players in the youths/reserves who could do just as good a job as Lucas.

Yeah he did pass comments like that on Lucas in his book. Was pretty dismissive of Lucas' ability and potential.

So maybe he's admitting that he made a mistake in his judgement of Lucas initially? I don't think he'd be the only one to be in that group to be fair

He doesn't seem to be 'admitting' anything.

My point is simply that undermining a team mate & his manager like that in his book was ****ing idiotic.

He said the lad was a top player and totally commuted to playing for the club? He put him down as the best player of the last 18 months. That's hardly knocking him

Didn't Carra also do a Keane and admit in his book that he went to do someone in a tackle before?

Quite frankly, no player should be bringing out autobiographies until they retire. It's the age we live in.

22 year old pop stars have 'books' written about them!

Said he nearly got Lucas Neil done in a shopping centre. Don't remember anything about a tackle, but it was about two years ago I read it, so can't quiet remember

I agree, though I still read them. Apparently Wayne Rooney is the highest paid young author in the UK

I agree with myself and yourself, yet i'll end up buying Reina's autobiography! Once it goes to paperback! I can't stand hardback books.

But despite being a hypocrite, it's a joke how footballers can come out with these books whilst they're still halfway through their career!

End of book book 1 "But hopefully, my loyallty will lead me to winning a trophy!"

Start of book 2 "Thankfully, my loyallty led to me winning a trophy. Now i hope the fact i'm more important than the manager and the club leads me to winning a trophy at a richer club" :)

Said he put in hard tackle on Song in training cause he hated his attitude.

Utd fans rushed to claim it was the same thing Keane did. Some people are very silly.

    Thanks for reminding me. I was able to find the relevant extract;

"You're not f***ing laughing now are you, you soft twat?" I said as he hobbled away.

Did I care he had a knock? No way. I don't remember him or anyone else in the squad for that matter trying to take the piss out of my ability again.

I reckon we will sign a Defensive Midfielder now in January, it won't be a top gap option either, i'd imagine the club will plow on with Champions league in mind and we would need top competition for Lucas in that instance anyway.

A new signing will probably be eased in with Spearing getting alot of games aswell, I think Spearing will plateau though in terms of his ability, he will probably be worth another 2-3 million by the end of the season though, by sheer presence in the first team alone.

As I said, the Keane comparisons were ludicrous. As everyone knows, going hard into a 50/50 tackle with someone so they know you're there is quite different to the disgusting assault perpetrated by Keane.

I agree they are different situations,
although still despicable from Carra to intentionally set out to injure his own team mate.

I was merely comparing it to the Keane situation in so far as they both admitted to going out to 'do' players in their autobiographies.

Tiote would be super but Newcastle will get fed up with being a feeder club soon!

If we throw them Carroll type money they won't complain. :p

    Actually this was it...

I think a loan would be a good option but most likely will have to buy.

Fellani from across the park would be an amazing signing in that position or even Rodwell given Everton's financial woes. Tiote would be super but Newcastle will get fed up with being a feeder club soon!

Lee Cattermole is another that will be linked but I'm not sure as to what he'd add.

Must have had a quoted post from you also but deleted it but quoted the wrong person on the wrong post, etc.

This is the point I was making about some people being absolutely ridiculous about this. There is absolutely nothing to indicate that he set out to seriously injure his own team mate (which would be despicable), he only set out to hurt him with a hard tackle. There's not a defender or midfielder in the world who hasn't done the same. It's a total non issue.

For example, I remember Danny Agger clattering Torres out of it in his first game against us after his move. Left Torres writhing around in pain on the deck after it. Did anyone think, "wow, that was despicable". No. It's part of the game that's great & it should always be that way. It's when incidents like Keane's cross the line to such an extreme that the outrage should begin.

His motivation in tackling Song is the problem. Agger tackled Torres during a match to win the ball. Carragher did it cause the mean boys were laughing at him.

    Blatter, I wouldn't bother dude.

Wouldn't mind a punt at Lassana Diarra in Jan as a replacement for Lucas.

He tackled Song to win the ball & send a message to Song.
Exactly the same as Danny Agger did.

I loved it when Agger did it.

How likely is it that Lucas's injury will affect his ability in the long term?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I imagine the club will be looking at sides that fall out of the Champions League or Europa League for the fill in for Lucas, which team with a decent water carrier that might need the money is likely to go out?

    ...forget it !

Someone mentioned earlier, but Diarra on loan seems the ideal option. He's a really top player, very good on the ball and great off it. He's played a bit this season but isn't first choice...Not sure if they'd let him go but I'd love it it we could get him.

Even if we had to sign him then anything around the £10m-£15m mark would be a bargain.

For now I think we have to trust in Spearing to do a job. I wrote him off a while back but was impressed with him last season and I think he has a role to play at the club. He'll definitely give 100% anyway that's for sure
